I have been using Windows Media Center for 8 years now. But since Microsoft removed it from Win10, I'm currently looking for an alternative. NextPVR looks fine, so far. However, there's one issue that I haven't been able to resolve:

After installing NextPVR, the PC keeps waking up each night at around half past two. According to powercfg, it's due to NPVR Recording Service. NRecord.log contains EPG update entries (see attached logfile).

So far I haven't found a way to prevent NextPVR from waking up my PC only for updating the EPG. How can I configure NextPVR to only update the EPG while the PC is already running?

change the EPG update time in Settings->Misc2, or disable the auto-update altogether and do it manually.

And I think there might be a windows setting for allowing wake timers....if you turned that off it shouldn't wake up the system.

Sounds like it's doing its job
The next post will be either my epg is empty or my recording was missed because the epg update was running
What's the issue with the pc waking up it should go back to sleep once epg data is finished updating

Well some users reported PC going to sleep before the EPG update had time to finish ...
It probably depends on how your power saving is configured.

Thank you guys for your comments. In WMC it was easy: find the task in the Task Scheduler and switch off the "Wake the computer to run this task" condition. During the last 8 years this worked perfectly for me. So far I have understood that it's not possible in NextPVR to schedule the EPG task in a similar way. Too bad, nice product, but I guess I need to look for other PVRs now.

Btw: I'm really upset about this completely useless posting from stustunz. I respect that he doesn't mind his PC to wake up each night for whatever reasons. And he should respect that I do.

You can specify the time it wakes the PC to do the EPG Update on the Settings->Misc screen. Alternatively, can also untick the 'Auto Update EPG' checkbox, and it wont wake your PC and update the EPG each night.

I don't understand why the answer I gave you wasn't what you are looking for? you can change the time, or tell it not to do it at all in Settings->Misc 2... why is it a deal killer that it's not in Task Manager?

You can schedule the EPG update with Task Manager if you wish.... just disable it in Settings->Misc 2, then call NextPVR.exe -updateepgonly in your task.

Hi johnsonx42,

your first answer helped me and I was really thankful for it, but neither manually updating nor waking up the PC at any configured time was what I was looking for. I don't necessarily need it to be configured by Task Scheduler, but it offers lots of options. Therefore your last posting really wowed me. Sounds like this is E-X-A-C-T-L-Y what I want. I'm gonna give it a try.

Hey, I'm really impressed by the promptness of this forum. Keep up the good work. And thanks again.
