Recording Aspect Issues

When recording two shows for some reason the aspect ratio on my TV goes out of wack and nothing I do seems to resolve the issue.

Both items will record but the aspect ratio is way off and there is nothing on the client side that will fix it. I feel like something in my recording setup is off and causing the aspect issue.

Let me know if you need any more info below is the device I am using.


Capture device: HD Homerun Extend (2 OTS Tuner)
Client: Fire TV

if you are recording with a HD Homerun using an antenna (I assume when you typed OTS you meant OTA), then npvr records exactly what comes from the broadcaster, no more, no less. the aspect ratio is up to your playback device, and won't be affected in any way by how many shows you record.

your issue really makes no sense, as you are connecting two completely unrelated things... there's no way to understand what's happening without more information, but I can't even think of what additional information to ask for.

I had a problem like that once and was convinced I was losing it, because it was just the one show that was doing it. Then I read a post (can't find it at the moment) about AFD and felt better. Maybe this is your issue. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Format_Description Apparently they set the flag so that some shows get a different aspect ratio than you would expect.

If you don't feel this is the case, post your logs after viewing the weirdness and tell us exactly what time it was so we can look at the right place in the logs and see if anything's up.

What happens when you play the recordings on the machine that recorded them using NextPVR? Or VLC? Or Windows Media Player?

Before blaming AFD for all channels, I's start with the FireTV. Without logs it is hard to say. Asumming you use Kodi or playback in NextPVR itself in logs we'd be able to show the aspect ratio.
