I've dug around the program and searched around online and some people mentioned that Kodi 16 would include this support, but I can't find it. Currently I have to open NextPVR to schedule a recurring recording instead.

I know I can manually set up a schedule in Kodi, but I'm more looking for the ordinary DVR functionality that NextPVR has where it automatically knows which episodes are new, and only records new episodes. Is that there in Kodi somewhere that I'm missing?

In the Kodi guide when you bring up the context menu there should be an option for ADD TIMER. That will give you some options to setup a guide based recurring recording. I believe that also includes the option to do guide based recordings for new episodes.

Be aware that on my experience that the Kodi EPG (from NPVR) only shows the next recording of a particular programme that is going to occur (with a little clock-face). Somehow when that recording completes (or doesn't) then the next occurrence of the programme (next episode/repeat/whatever according to settings) becomes highlighted. The EPG in NPVR, especially the additional TV Listings plugin "tells the truth" about all the occurrences of recordings - I guess because it cares deeply about clashes and re-scheduling to avoid them. You can easily fall into the trap of setting up multiple series-link style timers because you have forgotten that an earlier recording is already scheduled in Kodi. I now prefer using NPVR "native" client to set recurring recordings because the whole mapping of when the tuners will actually be active is shown. This starts to become important when you have a mix of tuners recording from different services.

It also takes a fair while (when you have lots of timers) for NPVR client and Kodi to talk to the NPVR "back-end" to schedule a new timer/recording, presumably because all that searching of the EPG and resolving conflicts is pretty intensive work.

The result of all that is from time to time I use NPVR "native" client to prune and tidy the recurring recordings so that I can understand what is going to happen. NPVR doesn't care - it just "seems to work" even with confusing and overlapping recurring definitions.

Trust Kodi and the NPVR front end; recurring recordings *DO* work! (At least with Kodi 15 onwards and the latest Jarvis plus NPVR 3.6.6 which is what I've had experience in).

this worked prior to Jarvis (16.0) in Kodi. you can no longer schedule season recordings inside Kodi using the EPG. when you select a program and hit "record" it schedules a 1-time recording. previously, you would get a sub menu allowing multiple/season recordings with options for new episodes only among other things. now you can only do this from inside NPVR or using the Kodi addon X-Newa.

Thats not correct. You can right click and select 'Add Timer' to get recurring recording options.

Also, don't forget that a long press of enter on your keyboard or remote also brings up the context menu in Jarvis.
