How does device priority work in nextpvr???

So if you have multiple sources/devices for the same channels how does nextpvr decide which device to get the channel from?

I want to change the priority of my devices so that one of my devices is preferred.

What does the priority in the devices tab do?

What does reverse priority for live tv tick box do?

I changed the priority in the devices tab to put the preferred device to the top but nextpvr still plays it from the other device, I can see this in status in the tray icon.

What does the priority in the devices tab do?

Top down unless there are back to back recordings on the same channle/mul and it will reuse the tuner.

What does reverse priority for live tv tick box do?

Bottom up for live tv.

Thanks I thought it was top down. However it dosen't seem to want to play from the source at the top when it has that source it always plays from the lower one, without reverse ticked?

I believe you have to restart the recording service after changing the device priority.

Yes, you HAVE to restart the recording service after changing the device priority for the changes to become effective. Otherwise the priority changes will take the next time the recording engine is started(boot time).

I think that also (at least for the most part) the device priority change will only affect scheduled recordings that a scheduled after the change or when an EPG update run reschedules recurring recordings. (Because recordings are assigned to a tuner at the time of scheduling--although the tuner may get changed at actual record time if the assigned tuner is not available at that time.)

Also, note: The entire tuner scheduling/use system is quite complicated, so recordings/live tv will sometimes use an "unexpected" tuner.
