I had a hunt around the forum and the wiki but cannot see a similar response, nevertheless apologies if it is covered. My server is the only client with a DVD player; so, can I play DVDs on the client but put the physical DVD in the server e.g. from a laptop client without a DVD?

thanks

k.

This might be possible in Kodi depending on the copy protection of the DVD. First share your DVD drive and map that share in your Kodi client. If all goes well then you should be able to play the video_ts folder as a file including DVD menus. x-newa web client does support how NextPVR servers BD and DVD files through the Video Library.

Thanks Martin, I was hoping it would be a nice quick solution such as using a fancy path with "lots of backslashes and colons" to direct the client NPVR to your server DVD drive" or "add a path to your list of Video Sources", but I note from subs response to the iOS client that it's unlikely to even be possible.

Shame really, as NextPVR is so sophisticated in being able to access shows and recording on Hard Disks, I saw a DVD drive as just another source. If I need it again soon soon I will look into the Kodi solution. No clients (not even Notebooks) have "clunky" DVDs these days so the only DVD players in the house are (a) The actual DVD Player (TaDa!) by the TV and (b) My NPVR Server (in the Study).

Wife and I wanted to watch TV last night at the TV and the kids wanted to watch the DVD, so I ended up parking them in my study at the computer. Not quite the comfy watch it from bed they had envisaged :-). It was getting late so I didn't really have time to rip the DVD (if not protected) to the Server.

The fancy path is effectively the solution with Kodi and potentially solution with Kodi nothing to do with IOS. I think it even worked on the PCH.

OK, clear. I haven't tried it on the PCH but I think you might be correct, it deferred back the the drive the server was linking to?
If so then why a PCH as a client could do this, and not a Notebook seems odd.
