changing channel

if i'm watching live tv in kodi and i change channel to one that is not broadcasting anything, it causes kodi to throw a fit, it almost locks up and slows down the user input, then about 60 seconds later i get the tuner not available notification and i can get on with stuff. is there anyway to get past this?

You can but when you hit a channel that is off air or not delivering data you will have problems. I have some OTA channels like this. If you want to simply flip and not use the guide you might be able to reorder you EPG so the stations that aren't 24 hours are at the bottom of the list.
