There have been other reports of this but I could not find them ... so we have a new thread.

I get glitches in recording due to reception problem. Sometimes, playback of recordings starts to fast-forward "automatically" without any button press. I assume that the "fast-forwarding" is due to a glitch in the recording.

An example is just after 30 seconds in the cutchunked recording at ... https://expirebox.com/download/7b42ad9bc...2ba03.html

For the avoidance of doubt ... the fast forward occurs with the updated 4.0.4.171121 build. I have played the chunk with Windows Media Player ... it did not fast forward plus I did not see any artefacts on screen.

Plus, I have updated the database so that the chunk is the file in the Recordings list. I have played the chunk after changing NextPVR Settings --> Decoders ...
  • Microsoft DTV-DVD - Fast forward
  • LAV - Video playback freezes for a few seconds and then playback ends and NextPVR drops back to the Recording menu
  • Mainconcept (supplied with Hauppauge hardware) - Video playback freezes for a few seconds and then playback ends and NextPVR drops back to the Recording menu

I've seen the fast-forward kick in a few times here. The video starts going really fast, but the audio is still playing normally from where the fast forward began. If I use the remote to go backwards a short-jump, the show will start playing again, but then fast forward at the same place. The only way I've discovered to watch the rest of the show is to stop playback after the fast-foward starts and then select resume from the menu. This starts the recording playing after the glitch and the show continues normally. Next time it happens I'll save the file and upload the glitched section.

Graham, can you remind me what the filename was for that file? I downloaded it a few days ago, but can't remember which of these files it was, and the link has expired - so can't just redownload it.

It's 2 Broke Girls ... I still have it and I can upload it again if needed.

I can see why it's happening. I'm looking for the best way to fix it.

Hi Sub, I've uploaded a recording that displays the fast forward problem described above. I have noticed that when this happens on a recording that NPVR also displays the timeline as shorter than the actual recording. I've uploaded a recording that you can check out. When I open it in NPVR, the timeline shows as 53:01. When I open it with VLC, the timeline shows as 1:04:58 (which is correct). The file plays fine in VLC. It seems like something in the NPVR playback routine is choking on an error in some recordings. It is my hope that you can find something in that file that will help track down what's causing this. I've also uploaded the comskip files as it was a comskip jump somewhere towards the middle of the show that kicked off the fast forward craziness.

I have noticed that only a very few shows display the short timeline. Most record fine. Sometimes a show with a short timeline will play fine up until the time it reaches the end of the timeline that NPVR is actually displaying. Any forward jumps after that will either jump back to the time value of the "end" of the broken timeline, or sometimes it just closes the file and displays the "This recording has reached the end. Would you like to delete it?" popup.

Link to MediaFire folder (Warning, the uploaded video file is 6 GB! We don't watch hardly any 1/2-hour shows): http://www.mediafire.com/?upptc4vgtca14

Let me know if there is anything more that I can do on this end to help.

Thanks!

Just a note to say that I've seen this behaviour too although it's often difficult to reproduce consistently (plus the wife tends to delete these recordings then tell me later....doh!)
It's also the behaviour that pressing FF in quick succession will also sometimes trigger. (Microsoft decoder in use)
