Windows 10 freezing

TV shows record fine if I’m active on the computer.
At the end of the day, I lock (Windows + L) the computer and close the lid. I‘ve changed the power settings so the lid close action does not cause the computer to sleep.
I assume the computer goes to sleep after 15 minutes per the power settings.
Several shows are scheduled to record later that evening and through the early morning hours.
The next day I open the computer and it’s frozen. The only way to recover is to hold the power button until the computer turns off.
All of the shows scheduled to record after I locked and closed the lid have failed to record.
Each recording has the following error message – Recording service not running at recording time
I've confirmed that Windows 10 does not freeze if NextPVR is not installed. It also doesn't freeze if sleeping during the time that a show is not scheduled to be recorded.

Honestly, this just sounds like some issue with your PC freezing up when you closed the lid, and from NextPVR perspective it's pretty much the same think as the PC being turned off (ie, NextPVR the PC wasn't alive, and giving CPU to NextPVR, so the recordings didn't happen).

You'd need to look into your power management settings and make sure that stuff is all happening reliably before you can expect NextPVR to work correctly in this situation. The fact your PC is frozen and your have to power cycle it tells us that the PC isn't behaving the way it should.

Does the NPVR recording service shut down when the computer goes to sleep? Is is possible that some setting (maybe in services) is not starting the NPVR recording service when the computer wakes up? When the computer does wake up and tries to record, maybe the system sees the recording service isn't running and this causes the system to freeze. Any thoughts?

The computer doesn't freeze up when I close the lid. It only seems to freeze up later on when the recording is scheduled.

No it keeps running, One of your NRecord logs showed a resume taking place.

If you don't think it could be a services timing issue, I suppose it's possible that something in Windows 10 is corrupt. I'll do a clean install and try again. Thanks.

Ultimately NextPVR just askes Windows to be awake at the time it needs to record. Windows takes care of the rest. If it is awake at that time, NextPVR will record. If it's not awake, the NextPVR will see that it missed the recording time, and mark the recording as 'Recording service not running at recording time'.

You'll see messages in the log like this for the times NextPVR has asked Windows to be awake:

Usually if a machine wont wake, it's related to their bios, since Windows makes calls to the bios to control wake timers.

That said, your machine was frozen, which is an entirely different issue, and points to some instability some where in Windows or your machine.

No, that wouldn't be the case. Windows isn't going to freeze because the Recording Service isn't running. That'd be a major windows flaw if it was that fragile. (ultimately Windows doesn't wake to record - it just tries to wake up and sit their for a bit, it'd be up to NextPVR to start recording when it's ready)
