Hi, I'm a happy user of next pvr v5 Version: 5.0.1.191224 on Windows x64
And I can recording everything without problems except for one program
It does record a bit after the show is over but the program itself is never there
Saying I expect ~3Gb but get like 500mb

I'm dutch and its "jeugdjournaal" (news for children)
It starts 19:00 till 19:25 with 5 mins pre and post padding

In the nrecord.log you can find it at 19:30 among a ton of http errors

2020-01-13 19:30:00.115 [DEBUG][9] Stopping recording (2919 on 21). Past end time of recording. 11

I deleted the schedule several times and recreated it many time with other settings
But no matter what I do it keeps failing. Help is appreciated Smile

You'll need to zip and attach the logs.

Where are you recording from? (ie device, IPTV, etc)

Yes I uploaded the logs but missed the last button, fixed now
I'm using a HDhomerun  HDHR3-4DC

The time is an hour behind but it must be this entry there

It kind of looks like it spent most of the time of the recording trying to get the tuner, but the HDHR kept returning "(503) Service Unavailable" because the tuner was already in use, before eventually managing to get access to the tuner 8 minutes or so before the end of the show.

So...make sure the tuner isn't in use next time.

I've made some modifications to the next build, so that it'll slow down the attempts to retry the connections in this type of scenario, so that we don't get logs just filled with reconnection attempts (like the logs you supplied).

It's a 4 channel HD homerun so it should have another channel free.
But this got me thinking

We do watch this show live on kodi (different system with a tv box) using the hdhomerun pvr addon for kodi
So that occupies 1 channel and should keep 3 of them free
Yet it may be that it only fails when we watch it live at the same time

I can switch from the hdhomerun pvr addon to the npvr addon pn kodi to test
But I slightly prefer how it's configured now

When you scanned specific tuners in NextPVR you were effectively telling it 'these are tuners you can use for recording when you need to'. It needs to be able to rely on those tuners being available, so it can plan it's scheduling and resource management etc.

Yes, using the NextPVR kodi addon will ensure NextPVR can manage the tuner availability etc.

I just switched the pvr client in kodi so lets see how it goes
Not happy with the timer notifications when I go to TV but that is a minor problem

However I don't fully understand your first sentence ?

In npvr I have 4 devices enabled, hdhomerun 0 to 3
All with the same 8 channels (I copied the channels of 0 to 1,2 & 3)
Shouldn't it just go to the next free channel if channel 0 is used by something unknown ?? (in this case the hdhomerun cleint on kodi)

Anyway I'm very happy now because it seems you helped me to resolve this
It was driving me crazy for weeks

A real PVR needs to be able to plan a head for resource usage. In general, if you tell it 'these channels are available on this tuner' (ie. scanned the device for channels), then it expects it'll be able to use them when needs to. This becomes particular important when you've got a low number of tuners (like 1 or 2), but is also import with 4 tuner devices like yours when you use the system heavily. ie, if you've got four tuners set up in NextPVR, it'd let you schedule 4 recordings at the same time. It's pretty shitty if when it goes to make those four recordings, it find some of the tuners aren't available because you're using them in some other app.

That said, there is usually a 'second chance recording', where if a device fails to start a recording, it'll look for another tuner which carries the same channel, and isn't scheduled for any other use in the time of the recording, and will start the recording there. It's possible the second chance recording isn't working correctly with the HDHR in v5. I'll check it.

Second change recordings work fine when the recording ends but they don't handle the situation where a tuner is not available. As an example I have an HVR 2250 and only one tuner works and I was testing it and accidentally left it enabled. NextPVR happily recorded a show to the end on the bad tuner and then when no data was delivered it searched out a second chance recording.
