Hey.. hope you get your networking protocals up and running soon.. the new homeplugAV will preview in a couple of weeks. (homeplug.org).. I am really looking foward to this new standard.. I being networking some commerial building with homeplug already and it works nice..

if you not familair, it a powerline ethernet tech.. that has a transport rate of up to 100megs per second.. the next generation vcr, dvdplayer, pvr and tv's are to be homeplug compatible.. the big advantage is no more cabling.. just plug the appliance into the wall and it instantly locates and connect to the internet, and other multimedia devices.. that they find in your home.. best thing of all why saturate your air waves with 2.4 or 5.8 ghz signal when this will do it just as well with less dead spots... right now I can not punch 3 rooms over with the wireless but easy does it with a homeplug..

I'd be temped by one of these if they're made available here in NZ sometime soon. I've got one room I'd like to get an MVP into, but it would be awkward to cable (and I'm not a big wireless fan).

I believe world wide distribution of the new homeplug av starts this fall.. how much network bandwidth do you need for the mvp? homeplug1.01 does 14 megs which is somewhat enough for most dvd's if you are to try, netgear xe102 variety is the most reliable.. i picked some up on for ebay 1.00 ( these thing sell for about 120.00 in canada at most generic retail places. but can be found for 60.00 at some specilized places)

example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...25042&rd=1

but you live in NZ you probably could get your hands on the japanness model of homeplug av it being out for a while I believe..

This link doesn't include the prices for the new products... just the old ones that are limited to 14Mbps. The new one supports up to 200Mbps, but I can't find a price, just the specs.

found out why I can not find locally, appearently they are , test bedding them in the uk.... find it abit sad they gave it a realtively bad reveiw.trustedreview..

but with powerline stuff your wiring needs to be up to snuff. any electrical switches arcing/heating..will cause problems... ( it a good way of detecting faulty equipement- switch off/on, one breaker at atime untill the speed goes up ). me personally had a abad power adapter. it was sending a trickle charge back... wrecked my powerline output ( cut it in half) to 6.5 megs average down from 10 - 13 megs I normally get. ( also it sort of also confirmed my suppsion that power adapter was kill my ups - causing random power offs) but plugged the poweradapter into a cheap surge bar to filter it noise and the connection jumped to back 95%- 98% ( 10 - 13 megs) which I do not think is that bad. since that was uniform through the entire house and any external outlets that I have at my house( one is 75 feet away from my house) and I was able to push a dvd via vlc to the remote computer with little problem , other then the chirps from time to time. but then again it was not powerline av.. but I can not see the preformance being that bad as they quoted- I know the 200 mhz is a pipe dream. that the total outout before all the header and compresion tables and all the redunancy stuff. then comes the data. which is about 120 max for actual data I believe.. so do not be fooled by the 200 meg stuff it more marketing then actual.. maybe you could transmit mp3( that's encoded at 200 megs per second) at 200 megs ( since it has it own error correction) but would probably still sound terrible..

Is anyone using HomePlug with an MVP? If so, please give us some feedback on how it is working and what you are using. I really want to put an MVP in the kitchen and wireless won't cut it and I can't get CAT5 there either.
