(2020-12-03, 06:09 PM)bickertn Wrote: Adding "wmv" to config.xml in the NPVR-data worked - at least to display the file in "MUSIC."  However, it doesn't play properly - the sound is fine but the picture flickers (I'm guessing 60/sec); also, the "view" either competes with the default MUSIC screen, or, when I click on "VIEW," the MUSIC screen drops to the lower right quadrant of the image, still flickering at 60/sec.
Ultimately NextPVR isn't playing the .wmv file itself, but instead relying on directshow and windows is choosing the default to decoder for that type of video. We don't know what decoder that might be.

It's important to note, NextPVR's Settings->Decoders screen allows you to select the decoders that are used for live tv and the playback of .ts files. For playback of any other type of file (like .wmv) it's letting Windows choose whatever decoders it wants.

For flicking in a corner of the screen, you may have the issue that some other users have with Intel drivers, and only some driver versions working well with the EVR video renderer.

Quote:I researched "decoders" in the forum and am clearer on the protocols and options, however, I haven't been able to resolve; e.g., in one posting, SUB mentions he likes the MS decoders for MPEG2 and D.264, however, when I select "Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder" from the drop-down for these settings, no picture is shown for Live TV (audio continues to work).
Things have changed over the years, with different versions of Windows supporting different things out of the box. In Windows 10, the "Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder" only supports H.264. To have it work with MPEG2, your need to have bought the Microsoft DVD Player application (which unlocks the MPEG2 capabilities of this decoder).

Quote:PS:  is there an easier way to enter something like the above list when posting?  I couldn't attach a wordpad file/image and i couldn't copy and past from the decoder screen
You can add image attachments of type .jpg / .png.

Attached is the zipped log.
For my own edification, I'm also trying to attach a zipped version of the wordpad "decoder" screenshot I captured to see if the screen image or the coding is transmitted.

.zip   NPVR.log.zip (Size: 4.57 KB / Downloads: 4)

Thinking about it, some of this might stem from the fact that you've added a video file to the music file types, and it's not expecting video to be present, so the UI and the video are fighting each other for being displayed. It might work correctly as a video file rather than a music file.

Your zip appeared. The image isn't there.

As well as zip files, you can attach images such as .png / .jpg

I didn't know people still pasted images into wordpad, that seems so antiquated.. As sub posted image formats are what the forum wants.

Yes, on this forum I do feel a bit antiquated. I'll figure out how to drop a screen shot into a .png or .jpg

And, yes, the ".wmv" videos play fine when I transfer them to the VIDEOS directors on my NAS.

Thank you for your patience and assistance. Issue resolved.

Sorry that might of come off condescending, what I was thinking more about modern social support areas like github, slack, teams allow us to drop images directly.

An alternative to creating a file locally is dropping the image on imgur.com and pasting the link.
