I have an m3u playlist of favourite music tracks.

When I go to the Music section of the NPVR client I see a list of the correct files and the m3u file. (directory is defined in the Client settings area)

Selecting the m3u file doesn't seem to do anything.

Should the client be able to play music from a playlist or am I doing something wrong?

Ray.

It does yes but maybe you haven't set up you default 32 bit decoders and splitters.

Reminder without logs there are no problems.

Hi Martin,
All decoders and splitters are fully configured. I have however worked out the problem.

My m3u file contains the full path of the music file.
e.g. \\SERVER\Music\Singles\Mark Ronson Feat Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk.mp3
the Playlists are in a sub-directory \\SERVER\Music\Singles\Playlists.

NPVR however assumes that the music files will be in the same directory of the m3u and doesn't respect the actual location given in the m3u.

The result is it tries to find the music file in :-

\\SERVER\Music\Singles\Playlists\\\SERVER\Music\Singles\Mark Ronson Feat Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk.mp3

and obviously fails.

The only way I can get it to work is to remove all the location information from the m3u and move the playlist into the music directory.

This is not ideal as it effectively limits a playlist to files in a single directory.

As you probably saw the logs make the issue pretty clear which is why I ask for them from the start. It makes it wasier for sub too, should he want to address this. Jaggy might know if earlier version of NextPVR supported absolute paths.

Nope the playlist has always had to be in the directory the music is in & not have the long path.

Thanks Jaggy,

My wife wanted to create a playlist of her favourite songs which happen to be spread across multiple albums (i.e. therefore in multiple directories). Guess she'll have to fall back to the old Windows Media Player instead of NPVR :-(

That kind of voids support for the m3u format almost completely. The format of m3u is designed for local/relative paths but also absolute including UNCs and URLs.

Admittedly I've been away from npvr for a long time but I thought I had playlists with multiple paths. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Cheers,
Brian

The reality is that m3u playback was never strong feature of GBPVR or future versions. I think I had most styles working in MB4 but most users just used the core functionality or more likely another music player. Sub did a pretty good job (with Jaggy's help) in v6 bringing music in UI clients up to the level of v4 but I expect that only a handful of users even use what is there now.

I have to admit I didn't use the Music side of it very much and my only use of m3u files has been for internet radio apps on my desktop.

Cheers,
Brian
