I just swap out dongle.bin files and unplug/replug the MVP. As sub suggested, there appears to be no need to start the Hauppauge software to "upgrade".

In fact, it seems to me if you went that route, and didn't place the dongle.bin in the gbpvr directory, the next time your MVP lost power, it would revert to whatever version gbpvr hands it.

On this note, what version do you "ship" with gbpvr sub? I've noticed it seems to be more stable than any of the versions I've grabbed from the SHS forums.

Is there an easy way to get the version of a given dongle.bin?

I tried loading off one of the newer hauppauge versions recently (I think it was the one ending in 088) and was plagued by crashes and lock ups until I reloaded off the one in GBPVR. I tried the latest last night and it crashed out of the blue after about five minutes use. I have not used it since so don't know yet if it was co-incidence or signs of the same problem.

I have been having some semi-crashes (black screens) on the MVP so I tried the dongle.bin file that user7 is using. I too have the D3A. I then had the problems with it crashing out like Paulp33 did, restarting servers every 5 minutes or so while watching a recorded program. I went back to the GBPVR supplied dongle.bin file and the crashes stopped. (I still get the black screens sometimes when it trys to start letting me watch a recorded show.) I still don't know if I have a software or hardware issue. I do know that the dongle file can really make it unstable....

I've found the supplied dongle to be the most stable as well.

I also get the black screen occasionally, followed by a restart. It most often happens when I stop playback, but occasionally happens at the start as well.

I think it's somehow related to timing when the MVP switches between video and UI. I noticed with the Hauppauge server, instead of a black screen, I'd get a green one with fine vertical lines, but the server didn't appear to crash as GBPVR does. Hitting a few keys would eventually get things back in place.

vitesse pilot Wrote:Thanks Sub - so is the case that you can't update the flash in these MVP unit ? Don't Hauppauge ever need to do updates ??

The MPV unit is basically a dumb-box, it has a basic bios to get it started and then just runs the software that is uploaded to it from the server. There is never any need to re-flash it, it just runs what is sent to it.

V.2.4.23104 was definately causing issues for me, went back to the one with GBPVR and everything is all right again. I did not use it much but the Hauppauge software seemed to work alright with this dongle, it was just GBPVR that seemed to have a problem with it.
