Have been running GB-PVR v1.0.16 with MVP dongle 30.24088 on a 14-year-old PC for years without problems. Didn't have enough horsepower to transcode on the fly, but good enough for general use. Quite solid.

This PC finally died.

So I have moved my PVR-500 card to a newer (circa 2004) PC and need to start over with installing GB-PVR.

I read that NPVR doesn't fully support the MVP, so am wondering what version of GB-PVR people would recommend....

- stick with what I know (v1.0.16)? or
- install the latest version (v1.4.7)? or
- some other version?

All opinions welcome.

Primarily interested in rock-solid stability. This is a single-core 2.4GHz PC, with 1GB RAM, and XP Home, SP3.

Thanks!

I would have no hesitation going to 1.4.7. I think your 1.0.16 is the old GBPVR interface; the new PVRX2 requires more video card power, but I think your 8500 would be OK. I don't recall all the changes/improvements over the years, beyond the newer PVRX2 interface, but many were related to better support of digital channels. If you're just recording analog for playback on an MVP, and not using plugins, you could probably stick with 1.0.16. There were some changes in Net Radio over the versions because of changes in Shoutcast, but, if you're not using it, it doesn't make any difference.

Thanks. I've now installed 1.4.7 and am having a configuration issue...

I can't seem to remember how I configured my old system to automatically archive shows on to a secondary drive (to balance the free space).

Anybody know how? VA plugin? Something else?? (Needs to be compatible with 1.4.7)

Thanks!

Just found another (much bigger) problem...

When I fire up my MVP, it only shows the "Go" menu (video, pictures, music, config) with no apparent way to view TV shows, the TV guide, or any of the other things that used to be on the opening screen.

Am I missing something obvious here?? In config.exe, I can't see anything that controls what the MVP should show on its screen.

Help!

Sounds like you are loading the hauppauge MVP dongle? Power off MVP (with RC). Stop the Hauppauge Media MVP service. Restart GB-PVR recording service making sure you have at least one MVP Client instance set in config.exe. Unplug/re-plug power cable to back of MVP, let it boot, should now boot to whichever GB-PVR dongle is set in dongle setting in config.exe.

Thanks Steeb!

I was just sitting down to delete my question after discovering the same thing... !

It's been 4 years since I've last upgraded/configured GB-PVR and I can't remember a thing about the nitty-gritty parts... It's slooowly coming back to me.

Any ideas about the automatic archiving of shows??

Big Grin I know, it is all the nitty gritty bits I often forget!

Not sure how you did it beforehand I haven't ever needed to do it myself but was it this:

by pBS, I have heard many many good things about it.

Nope, that's not it... The one I used would automatically copy over just enough files to give the same free space on both disks.

I have a main video partition (with 100GB of total space) and a secondary partition (with 300GB of total space) and it would automatically move the newly-recorded video files to whichever partition had the most free space at midnight each day.

Can't for the life of me remember how I set that up....

Anyone?

Did some more hunting around and discovered it was the Video Archive (VA) plugin. In particular, I relied on the "videoarchiver.exe" program.

Seems like Jeff has moved on to bigger things.

Anyone know if it's possible to configure/use just the archiving functionality of VA in 1.4.7? I know that I won't be able to see it via the PVRX2 interface, but was hoping there was a way to configure/invoke it manually...

???

jch suggest you try this over on the GB-PVR support threads as this is MVP/NMT thread.

Out of interest what is it you are looking for your MVP to do?

MVP support is there with NPVR, there have been huge improvements the biggest thing for me is the lack of full functionality for LiveTV for which Martin (mvallevand) has been doing great work with on the MVPMC dongle as discussed here:

http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...-for-N-PVR

unfortunately no-one seems too bothered....

cheers
