getting kodi to use nextpvr

You have to use valid IPTV URLs. If you are loading from a list of "free" IPTV streams they often won't work.

OK. We have been frozen and without power for a day, but I am ready to try this again. (Assuming we are not on the list for more rolling blackouts.)

My status:
I have succeeded in getting NextPVR installed and working. I can view, record, and play back videos.

I purged Leia and installed Matrix. But Kodi does not see NextPVR. There is no entry for PVR Clients in My add-ons. 

Running apt-get install kodi-pvr-nextpvr gives the message "kodi-pvr-nextpvr is already the newest version (3.3.21-1~focal)."

The pieces seem to be there, how do I tell Kodi to look for NextPVR?

Unfortunately you didn't purge Matrix well enough. Seeing "kodi-pvr-nextpvr is already the newest version (3.3.21-1~focal)." means you have to remove it and add from the nightly ppa to get v8.2.1

I finally got my tuner -- WinTV-dualHD. After installation, NextPVR recognized it. Scanned for channels (it took a long time) and it came back with all the channels I expected, much more than I needed.

But. I cannot get EPG information. It scans but winds up blank. And, the channels do not play. The message is "Starting Device. Please Wait..." then "Streaming Failed (transcoder exited)".

I tried the antenna on a nearby tv. It works fine. Also, the leds on the tuner are green. I think that means it can see a signal.

I checked device status in NextPVR and get "No devices are currently active" which seems odd. The tuner shows up fine on the device list.

I feel that I am so close. Just missing something simple like a "turn on tuner card" command.

Don't expect to get good EPG data with OTA broadcasts in the US. Instead you should subscribe to Schedules Direct. Also don't try and watch TV will scanning or getting the EPG data.

You also may not have auto mapped all the channels to all the tuners.

In doing some troubleshooting, I found that lsusb just hung up when I ran it. Restarting the machine gave me a boot error and I chose a different boot option. That cleared everything up. NextPVR is working fine. 

Thank you for helping with this. I now need to run down the reason Ubuntu won't boot right, but I think it is because of the unsigned Kodi package that I am running.

OK. I have a little bit better information. Logs attached.

After getting nextpvr-server.service restarted, the channels started working. It started receiving data and displaying programs. EPG was set to none.

Then, I tried to update the EPG. It counted down to 1 second and hung up. (I am not really patient. When it said 1 second, I ran an errand for a few minutes and came back to find it still at 1 second. Should I have given it more time?) 

After that, the channels would not receive data. Blank screens.

Clearing the EPG, bulk mapping to none, nothing worked. I restarted the service and all worked as before. No EPG data, and I cannot record, but it works for live tv.

I am headed to Schedules Direct to see if that works.

There is an issue with you configuration. I think you need to scan each tuner and automerge not copy when prompted.
