I know this has been done to death, but I am just curious -

In Graphedit, all the contents of the ...hauppuage\mediamvp\transcode directory show up. I'll be the first to admit I haven't the faintest idea what they all do, but as I always seemed to have better avi performance under the hauppauge software (even if it did redefine the word 'basic' Smile ) I was wondering if it was possible (or even desirable) to rebuild the graph identical to how the hauppauge software handles avi's?

I seem to have hit-and-miss performance with ffdshow, and when I turn it off the graph is rebuilt with Divx filter. I know this codec is what hauppauge use, but I still have performance issues - so what are they doing different?

Anyone got any ideas?

Fair enough, I never claimed anything other than 'basic avi' support. I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve though. Even if you knew exactly what filters Hauppauge use, its unlikely to help you play these files back in GB-PVR any better.

When you say 'better avi performance', what exactly is going wrong when you try it in GB-PVR? jerk/crashes/wrong aspect ratio/high CPU?

I suspect if you create a new graph and insert the the 'MainConcept MPEG Encoder filter' pick an MPEG filename, then select 'render media file' and select the name of a avi file, this will produce pretty much the same graph Hauppauge are using (and gbpvr's trans2mvp). Delete anything connected to the output pin on the encoder, although they may attach the 'Hauppauge Grabber' filter here.

Thanks for the reply guys. I've finally got round to updating my sig with my specs.

It's no biggy, as 95% of the avi's I have play fine - but the other 5% bug me because I don't know why! You know how it works Smile.

When I use ffdshow, I get a 2" black bar down the right side of the tv screen, which I think is just to do with the MVP (it's been discussed before), but next to the black bar is a green vertical line approx 1/8".....? The file plays fine, but it's just distracting. If I disable ffdshow and switch to Divx filter I get the black line and no green line. Curious.

Also, ffdshow caused problems with dr divx, which I use for reencoding.

Other issues - resizing, aspect ratio, waiting for the transcode delay at the start - I can figure out, or at least know why. There are already hundreds of posts on here concerning these topics; fortunately I have a sony wega tv that allows me to switch between 4:3 and 16:9 and I suspect this spares me a lot of aspect ratio issues.

Now, the main problem that I've never been able to figure out - my son has a couple of avi movies that he loves to watch (every bloody day - he's at that age). Gspot reports them as both 24fps, and when I played them under the hauppauge software they played fine -

when I play them through gbpvr, the mainconcept mpeg encoder reports the mvpxxxx.mpg file as 29.97fps. They play back back - audio and video - but out of sync from the very beginning.

I would love to figure this out above all else - any ideas?

Thanks again.
