I followed some excellent looking advice on Geekzone to try NextPVR.  I have been using MythTV for a few years, but it doesn't seem to be well supported now.
It has installed OK on my Ubuntu 20.04.3 server.  I plugged my two USB turners into it and tried a scan.  No channels found with any Wellington config file (I am using Fitzherbert, which should be covered by /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/nz-WellingtonInfill )
I've got a vast amount of PC experience (using Linux since about 1998), but not a lot with UHF and tuners.  I do wonder how the frequencies specified in /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/nz-WellingtonInfill related to those listed on https://www.rsm.govt.nz/assets/Uploads/d...-table.pdf ?

I then plugged the tuners back into the MythTV box (without changing anything else) and that still works fine.

Log files attached.  Any suggestions please?

Thanks!

Steve

I would stop NextPVR and from the command line use dvbv5-scan with the DTV scan table you want and see if you get different results.

Yep, that'd be my first suggestion - try scanning with dvbv5-scan to see if you're finding channels.

Unfortunately the linux NZ frequencies tables in /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t for were majorly out of date, at least on my Ubuntu install, and I needed to update nz-WellingtonKauKau to match my local frequencies.

I don't know if 4 years is good or bad, but sometimes tvheadend is more current https://github.com/tvheadend/dtv-scan-tables

What is the MythTV source?

Top marks to Martin (who is probably too humble to accept the praise if he is Canadian)!

Key point was to use the 'tvheadend' frequency listings, which worked well (in contrast to the ones shipped with NextPVR). There is an 'NZ-all' file which contains what is says, more or less.
I couldn't work out a simple way to see which frequencies MythTV was using.

I worked this out by feeding various files into dvbv5-scan so thanks for that suggestion too.

Now that NextPVR is working, it looks very promising. Nlite-client works fine on my Windows laptop too. Found the NextPVR server by magic. Recording looks good. Love the live TV in my browser.

Do you have documentation explaining how NextPVR uses the two decoders? Can it record overlapping programs, or record from one decoder while watching another?

Thanks for suggesting your product on Geekzone @sub. Oh yeah, developing it helped too.

Cheers!

Just to be clear, these files aren't shipped with NextPVR. It's using the tuning files that came with your Linux distribution, which just happen to have been out of date.

Great, glad you like it.

Just checking the nlite client you're using is https://nextpvr.com/client.zip. There is an older cross-platform one mentioned in a few places, but this is a newer windows specific one, which works better.

There isn't a lot of documentation on NextPVR. The basics are described here: https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki

I think you mean tuner. Yes, NextPVR can use multiple tuners. Yes, recorded programs can overlap if the tuner is tuned to same channel.

NextPVR also has it's "multirec" feature, which allows you to record multiple channels on the same frequencies, with a single tuner. ie, TVNZ1, 2, 1+1, 2+1, Duke are all on the same frequency, and with a single tuner you can be recording/watching all these channels at the same time.

FYI, "decoder" is a playback component. For example, in NZ with our DVB-T channels, you'll be watching streams that contain H264 video and HE-AAC audio. While watching these channels, you'll be using an H264 video decoder and HE-AAC audio decoder.

Thanks for the details. Yes, I had been using the the much older nlite client. Have the current one now.
Does Windows have the same problem with outdated frequency settings? I am going to put another post on Geekzone recommending your product and will mention updating the Linux frequencies.
I think there is a problem with one of my tuners. Never mind, Vodafone TV will keep recording some things until September.
I used these settings to create an IPTV 'device' which seems to work fien. I understand it will be lower quality than terrestrial? https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...t%20M3U%27

No, in the case of Windows, NextPVR is distributing it's own tuning files. These should be up to date for New Zealand (and UK etc).

They're fairly decent streams. The TV3 one is a little lower quality that terrestrial. The others are mostly ok.

They're nice easy streams to use in NextPVR, and can used to setup with no tuner at all, and have guide data, which is good.
