Missing EPG entries - Control Characters

Hi,

it seems unrelated, but I'm running NextPVR in a Ubuntu Server VM (hosted by TrueNAS Scale) and some channels are missing EPG. After looking at logs, I found that EPG xml contains Control Characters like SOH or DEL, which is probably an error from the channel, but instead of ignoring bad entries, it ignores all of them.

That's a know issue that sub is looking into on another thread.

First there is the ATSC EIT logging which might be fixed with a patch that was send only with Docker, but I think that the xml is still bad.

I suggest creating a fullmux capture

dvbv5-zap --c /var/opt/nextpvr/adapter0-DVB-T-channels.conf TF1 -P -t 60 -o fullmux.ts

and providing that file externally eg. GoogleDrive OneDrive

Note that --c is ambiguous (at least on my machine) and I replaced it with --channels.

Can you see if replacing your ./DeviceHost/x64/DeviceHostLinux with this fixes the issue? You'll need to do a 'chmod +x DeviceHostLinux'.

I did not know where to put it at first, so if someone else needs it : /opt/nextpvr/system/DeviceHost

I did an unpatched EPG update first, replaced DeviceHostLinux with the patched file and did an EPG update again. Looking at logs, the control character does not show during the second EPG update (I downloaded the logs after each update). Missing EPG entries from earlier are now listed.

Note that for testing, I reduced the waiting time from 60s to 10s. Also, note that I did not restart the VM or the NextPVR service as it did not seem to matter. I can do it again if you need more data ^^
