I'm looking for a solution to display metadata / thumbnails for downloaded YT vids in NextPVR.

Right now I can DL the vid in MP4.  The metadata and thumbnail is embedded in the MP4 file.  NextPVR can play the vids great.  I would like to see the imbedded info on the videos screen.

I tried the --import option on NextTool and that didn't work.  I think that I will have to extract the metadata into a separate XML file so that NextPVR can pick it up, but there a lots of vids, so if I go this route I would like to easily translate the MP4 meta tags to the tags that that NextPVR uses.

Thanks, John

The only metadata NextTool reads right now is in wtv files. If you provide me with a sample I can a look. NextTool also can read NFO files but don't plan on adding thumb extraction.

Thanks, I should be able to add that. I'd be curious if you have any have a different synopsis/description text.

Code:
Metadata:
    major_brand     : isom
    minor_version   : 512
    compatible_brands: isomiso2avc1mp41
title           : Don't call me Shirley
    artist          : pmw8000
    date            : 20120702
    encoder         : Lavf58.76.100
    comment         : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KM2K7sV-K74
description     : Lelslie Nielsen's immortal comeback, from "Airplane!" (1980)
synopsis        : Lelslie Nielsen's immortal comeback, from "Airplane!" (1980)

See if this will work.  I had to kludge the description field since the tool I'm using sets them to be the same.

Not sure to do with this information since I don't like adding junk metadata to NextPVR but thanks, I wasn't sure which to pick.

Code:
Metadata:
    major_brand     : isom
    minor_version   : 512
    compatible_brands: isomiso2avc1mp41
title           : Don't call me Shirley

I was really just looking for a solution to extract the metadata from the mp4 and output an XML file that NextTool understands (using the <recording><filename>... tags).

My working theory is that I can use ffmpeg to extract, but it outputs "a simple UTF-8-encoded INI-like text file", so I will need to transpose this into the XML using a utility like jq or yq. I was hoping that someone else had already done something like this, or even had a more elegant solution.

Writing to xml would only make sense if NextPVR or NextTool understood the markup. NFO files would be more general MediaInfo CLI will create an xml file exiftool is a useful CLI tool for writing the exif info
