In the meantime here's another log which included a NPVR client crash after event.
10:04:00 started playback of recorded Pointless Celebrities.ts file
10:04:11 Skip used to go to actual programme start. Audio plays but video is just black screen
10:04:17 Stop key pressed
10:04:25 Play selected again from menu. Audio plays but video is just black screen
10:04:30 Stop key pressed again
10:04:49 Play selected again from menu. Audio plays but video is just black screen
10:04:53 Unexpected error message with NPVR client crash
I know Martin was talking about the LAV install but does playback use LAV? I see "Using 'NPVR TS Reader 5" in the logs.

It uses the LAV decoders if that is what you've selected. (it will also use 'NPVR TS Reader 5' for demuxing the transport stream)
