Thanks Martin, I will look into that. Would love to get the HDPVR products working in that environment.
I am still learning and making mistakes, but power users such as yourself make the process even better with your insights and knowledge, which make the seemingly impossible more attainable.

It would be cool to be able to Use the Colossus cards under Linux, or in my case within the TrueNAS Scale (KVM) as it's hypervisor.
I use Proxmox as my main hypervisor and run Windows 11 and TrueNAS Scale as Proxmox VM's, but run various apps like Plex, Jellyfin etc  inside TrueNAS Scale as apps.

TrueNAS Scale runs on Debian, so as well as being a NAS, it is quite nice having an app like environment where you can containerize things and mess around, without needing an in-depth knowledge of Linux.
I like doing it that way, as Scale seems more functional in how it uses things like GPU resources, so I can assign GPU hardware in the Proxmox Scale VM, and then split resources up in Scale apps, so multiple apps can use the GPU for hardware acceleration and transcoding, all in a GUI, vs delving into each container, and installing and configuring GPU drivers etc.  Scale just handles all that for you.

I forgot to point out the biggest potential drawback of the HDPVR family and that is getting a plaster to work.

I'm a bare metal guy, and run for home use, I don't need all that power or configuration. headaches Refurbished computers are cheap and running Jellyfin and NextPVR native is so easy. I'd rather not share network bandwidth GPU or CPU.

Yes, I can understand that, and one reason I chose the Windows version with my Hauppauge Colossus cards.

Yes, I too have reverted back to bare metal, as I still have my original PC hosting NextPVR.
I went virtual when I built a homelab, and it works very well, but have issues with passthrough of PCI-e tuner cards, so used USB tuners.

My original NextPVR box ran the Colossus1 card flawlessly, but when it failed, I replaced with Colossus2, and discovered that although it is a PCI-e card, it actually is recognized at system level as a USB2 device.
I just received an original Colossus1 card from Ebay, and I installed it back in original PC, and NextPVR recognized it and uses it perfectly.
I purchased it to see if a true 1080i capture card would resolve the issues I have using Fire TV Cube 3rd gen with my Set Top Box, causing weird micro-stutter issues.

Interestingly enough, it does seem to make a difference.  Been watching live TV from my STB, and as yet have seen no micro-stutter, but have yet to perform any recordings.
I tried running the Colossus1 card in the Virtual Machine, but could not get the passthrough working like other PCI-e tuners I have tried.

So, am back on the bare metal original PC now.
I might setup NextPVR under Linux on the Virtual Machine and mess around with that, now that it will not be used with STB.

The colossus1 card is the better card methinks.  For a start it can encode at 20mbit, vs the colossus2 at 14mbit.
It also records in the native interlaced resolution that my Set Top box outputs, whereas the Colossus2 uses 1080p.
I have a theory that the colossus2 does not get the field order correct when recording, as the micro-stutter is often accompanied by what looks like video tearing at the very bottom of the picture.

Devices like Shield seem to have no issues with the 1080p recordings, but Fire Cube 3 chucks a major mental with it under Kodi.
I only persist with it, as I purchased three of the Cubes for the home and was kind of a horror moment to discover the micro-stutter, after spending the money on the devices.

You are dead right regarding headaches from configuration.   Virtual is doable, but incredibly complex.
