Soooooooo Im back again for help and advice..... My end goal is to have my recordings in a folder saved on my NAS so they can be played anywhere via my own hosted plex on my PC (intel NUC 13th gen).

I have two options. Install NextPVR on my NUC and select my NAS as my recording destination OR install NextPVR onto the NAS and record directly onto the itself. the lasster would save a little electric by only having one device boot up.

So my issues on my windows install..... I have managed to install the app and I CAN record and see the recording via the NPVR web browser however nothing shows up in my folder. i have tried several ways, copied the location address and put in the recording file, made a mapped drive on my NUC pointed NPVR there, same issue, tried it using IPADDRESS\Foldername again same result, either doesnt see the location and wont record or it records but i cannot see the video file, this means plex also cant.

when i try to install on my NAS (Asustor AS5404T) Not sure if i should post this bit here or start a thread in the relevent part of the forum.

i manage to download, but because its not fully linux and my lack of knowledge I get this when I install,

Houghton19@AS5404T-E6F0:/volume1/home/Houghton19 $ sudo install mediainfo
BusyBox v1.31.1 (2024-03-13 03:01:58 CST) multi-call binary.

Usage: install [-cdDsp] [-o USER] [-g GRP] [-m MODE] [-t DIR] [SOURCE]... DEST

Copy files and set attributes

        -c      Just copy (default)
        -d      Create directories
        -D      Create leading target directories
        -s      Strip symbol table
        -p      Preserve date
        -o USER Set ownership
        -g GRP  Set group ownership
        -m MODE Set permissions
        -t DIR  Install to DIR

if i type -c and enter i get a error  -sh: -c: not found

Thanks for any replies and help.

There are many posts on the folder problem if you search the forum. From Windows if you want to use a mapped drive letter you should set the recording service to run as a user. You shouldn't have this issue with \\ip\sharename unless you have permission issues with the share itself.

I don't understand the second part of you post or why you need to install mediainfo on your NAS. If you are trying to install NextPVR on
Docker everything it needs is included.

Thanks for such a speedy reply on here as always!!!

I have changed the user from local system to hough (my windows 11 log in from my hotmail account, then on my NAS I have made a new user and given admin rights, user is named hough still facing the same issue, program is visable via webgui but not visible on NAS, dont think its a permissions issue.

I have also posted on the Asustor forum to see if they can explain the other part from the linux install.

Can you record to a local drive? If so it it either a typo or permissions. Upload the zipped log and we can have a look.

Martin

Just tested the local recording and that works perfectly, it creates a folder and i can see all the files in the folder. logs.zip is also attached. thanks again!

So I'm still struggling with this, I have been away for a week so didn't have chance to sort it.

I did find that the files were recoding but into a folder that was tucked away in the C: on the pc...... I had tried using the address from windows explorer to send to the NAS but that didn't work. Soooooo..... I have now managed to get NextPVR installed onto my Asustor NAS, to achieve this I have had to install portainer and do it via docker pull inside portainer (Im new to portainer too so please be kind), I have got all my channels installed, but now I need to figure out how to set a new recording path, I have a folder called "Recordings" on my NAS on Volume2, when I click the folder icon in NextPVR I cant get back that far (assuming that its only letting me see files in the docker container??). I have looked in evniroments but I cant figure out what I need to do to find the correct folder.

Thanks.

If they are are recording to a different path that would likely be a typo.

For Docker you need to create the folder on the NAS first like you did with /recordings /config etc and then add it via the Web GUI. You still need to give the give the proper permissions on the folder and if you need special user permissions you used to set the Docker command line properly.
