[FIXED!] NPVRSetup.exe fails to install the latest version

I've been unable to install any later version on my new Win11pro machine past version 5.0.
I ran the latest version of NPVRSetup.exe, and the installation completed.
I've uninstalled, and re-installed. I have plenty of spare RAM and disk space.

Settings says "Version: 5.0.6.200614  (6.1.5.231022 is available for download) "

v5.0 is working, but I can't link it to Kodi v21.1, where the NextPVR addon insists I have at least v5.2 of the NPVR backen running.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

PS. I "may?" have run, initially, an old version of NPVRSetup.exe (that I had on my hard drive store of installers) and that installed v5.0 (which is 4 years old now!)...? I was under the impression the setup installer always downloaded the lastest version, so I don't think I bothered to update the installer, perhaps? I dunno, but that's the only explanation that, IMHO, explains why such an old version is installed. And for some reason, the new NPVRSetup.exe can't install such an old version...?

It could be that NPVR.zip is n the folder with the installer, if so remove it.

Yep, thanks Martin... it was indeed! An NPVR.zip from Jun2020! I didn't realise how it worked like that, so thanks for the info!
Have deleted the .zip file, re-ran the setup exe, and all updated now.

Just wondering if this "problem" could be used as the basis for Rolling back to an earlier version, does NextPVRsetup.exe prioritise the use of a local NextPVR.zip file over the on-line version?

I have noted there is no supported solution to revert to a previous version and the reason for that is a version upgrade could change the database, config.xml and other user data settings that aren't backwards compatible. I know that is the case for UK OpenTV users but not sure about other internal changes. It is always best to make your own backups of the program and system folders.

Before reverting it is also best to forward all logs and post a message explaining the reason for reverting.

If you want to do try this method to keep the binaries only in the future you are of course on your own to try it. I would have offereed it as a solution but I don't even have a backup copy for Windows. However

- also keep the installer it can have version specific changes. You will miss potential fixes in the installer too
- clean out the Program folder before installing
- make sure you have the correct NPVR.zip
- some changes to config.xml are lost when you downgrade

Importantly when you downgrade from v7 to v6 you are moving to a version of C# (6) that is no longer supported by Microsoft
