Hi Folks...

I have been using nextpvr for quite a few years with a DVB-T tuner with great success - the old compro just keeps on going!

as i will soon be upgrading the machine, and the old card will be retired, i have started using the FTA IPTV channels to do the same thing...

Only it behaves like there is only a "single" tuner on that device....

what happens is - if the programs overlap, i get the first bit of the earlier scheduled recording, and it stops when the later recording starts...
I then end up with the first bit of one show, and the last bit of another...

with the hardware tuner - i get a warning if i overlap recordings on different TS streams (mux) ....so i cant actually screw that up (i can record as many channels on the same stream as i like)

With the IPTV streams - there is no such warning....so im not sure if the concept of a 'mux' applies...each channel seems to have its own .m3u url...

I'm just wondering if there is a setting i am missing, or if it is a limitation of the resources available to the IPTV device?
(or NPVR cant actually record simultaneous iptv streams)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

It depends - you can set the limit in the settings for the IPTV device, but default is like 32 simultaneous connections.

However if it's a paid for IPTV service though, they'll often sell you a single connection service, or maybe 2 connections if you're lucky. (and up to 4 connections will cost your more).

Be warned, IPTV connections are never going to be as reliably as DVB-T. They're notoriously flaky. ie, they'll often survive a quick minute or two while you're checking it out, but a lot of times can't be relied on to stay contactable for an hour or so for recording etc. This often over-sold, and in dodgy data centres etc, so often just can't keep up.

Thanks sub....in my case they are all free to air, and single recordings are rock solid reliable....and I have 32 connections set....

It's actually only a problem for schedules....if I kick off manual recordings all at the same time, I have had up to 5 running no problem....

Cheers,
Im wondering if it could be something else. I'll try a couple and post the logs here.

Pour ce qui me concerne, j'ai créé 2 "tuners" IPTV. Lorsque je planifie un 2è programme TV en IPTV, je dois sélectionner la chaîne du tuner disponible, sinon çà fonctionne mal.

thanks pouzolais...

i tried this last night and it appears to have worked!

the 'down side'? is that the EPG has dual entries - one for each of the two digital tuners i set up....this is actually ok as i can make sure each recording has its own tuner....

Merci...

You guys need to start sending the zipped logs, without them there are no problems.

Anyway I had to guess at an issue figuring it relates to pre and post padding and sure enough NextPVR waits for the tuner instead of pre-padding but it doesn't kill the tuner so it uses more than the configured tuners during post padding. Doesn't matter if it is back to back because IPTV doesn't support multi-rec

Code:
2025-03-26 08:45:25.850    [DEBUG][11]    About to start recording (977 on 31):
...
2025-03-26 08:47:59.827    [DEBUG][11]    Recording due to start pre-padding, but tuner not available
2025-03-26 08:48:00.128    [DEBUG][11]    About to start recording (978 on 31):
...
2025-03-26 08:50:00.147    [DEBUG][11]    Stopping recording (977 on 31). Past end time of recording. 22

You can merge channels by name but it will make the problem harder for you to fix when sub releases a fix.

Thanks Martin - yeah when i had the problem, by the time i got around to reporting it i lost the logs, and then after the suggestion from pouzolais, i no longer have a problem myself...

I'm going to leave them un-merged - so i can manually select a tuner.

strangely, back to back recordings on the same channel with the same tuner dont seem to be an issue...will check and report back (with logs) if it is...
