I'm pleased to see this new movie library feature in the latest release (7.1.1.260616 ) and also the accompanying info on the wiki
One row per genre (Action, Comedy, Drama, …), listed alphabetically. A movie appears in every genre it belongs to, so the same film can show up in several rows. Movies with no genre information are grouped under Unknown.

I appreciate that the scope of this new module is currently limited but wanted to share some thoughts and observations:-

I have a bunch of well known movies flagged with genre as unknown that I expected to be properly categorised (such as S:\Movies\Apocalypse Now (1979)\Apocalypse Now (1979).mp4)
I also have a bunch of movies in the somewhat generic genre "drama" and some where the genre is just wrong.
After deleting the files for these movies from C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data\media\shows and re-scanning, generally things now look good, although it's a bit of a headache to do this in windows explorer when I have 11,800 files in this folder.

I note that when I select a movie, up arrow, select metadata, (just like in Videos module) it only appears to show a search of TVDB and not themoviedb.
I did do a tvdb lookup of some well known movies and the existing metadata and jpgs got deleted so I had to delete the xml files and rescan to fix these.
If it were able to do a movie lookup, this would help folks to better manage their movie metadata via the UI.

While I very rarely ever use kodi/jellyfin, I still use a third-party metadata manager (Media Companion) to create metadata .nfo and folder/fanart jpgs. IIRC, the very old Movies plugin for GBPVR used these files).

It would be great to be able to view movies in A-Z order (like I can do via videos) or release date order.

An nfo to catalog convertor would be trivial, 11000+ is not

I much prefer tmdb to tvbd for movies it would be my first place to look but it depends how esoteric a collection you have.

The 11,000 files in C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data\media\shows are created automagically by npvr for all shows in the EPG (or perhaps shows that have been clicked on in the EPG).
Ideally, it would be preferable if movie metadata was stored in a separate folder like C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data\media\movies.

My movie collection is reasonably mainstream but (unless I've missed something) I don't think I have any control over whether npvr uses tmdb or tvbd.

As a side note for Sub: the timestamps of these files isn't when they were downloaded but (I presume), the original timestamp of the file downloaded from the we. This results in files with times in both the distant future and past which makes it difficult when considering which redundant files can be deleted.

All good feedback. This screen is very new, and could definitely benefit from the ideas from others.

It's currently built on the pre-existing metadata lookup, and will use whatever metadata services you have enabled. Yes, it stores in the same C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data\media\shows directory it's always used. I'm considering changes for this in the future, but that can be plugged in later.

I've just made a minor change that'll improve the metadata lookup when it's coming from the movies plugin, and have it favor TMDB results, which should with Apocalypse Now (1979) etc.

Genres are coming back from that metadata lookup.

Honestly, I didn't even remember/notice that that details screen had that metadata button. It could do with some rework to improve it for the next release.

The change I've made with this should help

Now with the changes to get the original air date the folder is going to get even bigger, so media/movies would be nice ()

The new metadata grabber is great though so the size is worth it, no complaints there.
