I had never heard of gbpvr until today when I was reading HTPC News. Good stuff, and this is something I would certainly be interested in looking at...if you could provide delivery of digital cable over firewire within the GBPVR interface. There's quite an active thread over on TGB regarding timmoore's application that allows for channel changing over firewire as well as recording of digital cable off an STB over firewire, but he can not deliver live A/V within the MCE interface.
Is support of Tim's app withing gbpvr for changing channels being explored? How tough would it be to capture the stream off the firewire and display live TV within the gbpvr interface? Is it possible?
For reference, see this thread on TGB:

Thanks!

I'm stretched pretty thin already, so in the past I've already commented that this isnt a project I'm going to take on myself. I do provide an interface which enables developers to make their own recording plugins, so I'm hopeful someone else will take on this project in the near future.

Understood...and as I said, I'm not a developer so I'm no help whatsoever here, but I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Smile

Hi, I use Tim Moore's firewire channel changing plugin for my Beyond TV 4.9 setup, but am thinking of switching to another PVR like NextPVR. Will his plugin work for channel changing? Any new developments with firewire for NextPVR? I'm not interested in capture, just channel changing. I've found IR blasters to be unreliable (the blaster being moved by pets, or bright sunlight interference), but firewire has worked 100% for me.

Yes, you can use it for changing channels. There is a few others around that do exactly that.

Yes it works well I use channel.exe with my HDPVR but if you are considering a server upgrade at the same time you must use a 32bit Windows OS

I replaced Tim Moore's channel.exe with Sage Changer: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51608

It works equally as well, but adds a flag to power-on your STB if it is off. My cable company enjoys updating their firmware often and it always leaves the STB powered off afterward. I've not missed a single recording because of this since I switched.
