Be careful with spanned drives if the main drive fails it takes all the files on the second drive with it. Why not schedule a batch file once a day @ night to copy the files in your recording directory to the second hard drive? at this way it frees up the recording harddrive.

in Xrecord you can archive recordings - to another drive if you like.

Maybe this can be done automatically too - have not tested.

Other plugins can archive to
Using DELL P4 1.5GB RAM 250 GB HD + DLINK DNS313 netdisk 1,5TB, 2 pieces of Hauppauge PVR150 w/45-button remote, 1 Popcorn Hour 110. Win XP SP3. GB-PVR v1.4.7 Plugins: Xrecord

I doubt one would need backup on a recording drive.

to each his own... If my wife looses all her 'forensic files' and other 'law & order', she'll beat me with the dead hard drive...
Also, in RAID0, if ONE drive dies in the array, the WHOLE array is lost, I think. So a HD failure does have some serious consequences. This is why to me, RAID 4 or 5 would be a better option.

I am not sure how spanned drives work. They may be a bit more tolerant to faults.

The Video Archive plug-in includes a utility that can be used to automatically archive shows over a specified number of days old.
