Hi,

Any pointers re why I may be getting a black screen for "Live TV", but playback of recorded shows work? If I go to live tv I hear audio but the screen is black, then I cancel to go to main menu and for a split second I do see the picture. Meanwhile recording and playing back recordings works. I was using system default for the MPEG-2 decoder so I'm not really sure which one was being used when things were working (before I installed Adobe).

Whats Changed - FYI - I had things working but did install a trial version of Adobe Premier Elements.

Setup
- Twinhan DVB-T card
- drivers from as suggested
- had to manually register one of the twinhan DLL's too from memory (based on another post)

Thanks

From you description it sounds like a problem with the MPEG2 decoder. Installing Adobe Premiere may have installed a new MPEG2 decoder and changed the system default. All I can really suggest based on this, is try another MPEG2 decoder.

Can I ask I quick question(s) if you happen to the answer offhand?

How does one uninstall a MPEG-2 decoder?

Do they (the decoders) turn up in "device manager" at all, or do only the BDA capture device drivers turn up here? I do see a "video Codecs" section but can't see an entry for example for the "intervideo video decoder"

They're usually installed with applications, and uninstalled when those applications are removed.

You can download the directshow filter manager from http://www.softella.com to see the directshow filters installed on your machine. Unfortunately there is nicely grouped place to see them listed together. They usually have 'video decoder' in the name.

I think microsoft had a tool called DECCHECK which might show you the decoders on your machine.

thanks

re "DECCHECK" - I'm running this already. Unfortunately it only offers actions of: "set as preferred", "check for update" & "restore defaults". I should probably try the last one out. I'll keep trying things.

BTW - Which decoder (or software that comes with one) would you recommend for GB-PVR if I wanted to install a fresh one that I know should work? (or should this be best handled by a successful installation of the Twinhan BDA Capture and Tuner Driver?)

I usually either use the Intervideo one, or Cyberlink with VMR registry settings added. I use VMR9.

re "Intervideo" - is it possible to download the decoder only from intervideo, or is the concept you were implying to download their S/W package (they have a DVD player software package don't they) and install this?

tks again

I think I got the Intervideo one installing WinDVD. I got the Cyberlink one installing PowerDVD

Resolved finally - Installation of showshifter ensured I had a mux turn up in the mux checking too. I think my registry settings must been muddled for Intervideo as I could not get a mux to register by reinstalling WinDVD. Also had to uninstall GB-PVR and delete its user application data & reinstall
