I was thinking that when a recording is scheduled for a certain block of time that it could somehow be reflected in the timeline of the TV Guide. Maybe the foreground or background of the text in the timeline could change color. This would help the user to avoid conflicts at a glance.

If you use the Xguide plugin it will be a shaded RED to make it easy to see. It is a great plugin!

The standard TVGuide seems to be faster, but has far less functionality. I use them both in my main menu and use whichever one serves the immediate purpose. Xrecord is great companion. Check out the info on the wiki.

If you want the timeline to be shaded or recolored in order to be able to easily tell that there already is a recording for these times, then this would only be a solution for people with a single capture source. I have 2 capture cards - would I need 2 different colors (one color to indicate one scheduled show and another to indicate 2)?
What about reboot? He has 5 tuners!
Still, it's a nice feature, I agree.

Right now I have 2 capture sources, I believe that it just shows them both in RED. With Xrecord there is a conflicts section that will show if you have any.

I am not sure if that helps - but that's all I got. Smile

If you look in the skin.xml under recordings, you'll see at the top, the colours used for normal, selected to record, ready, and conflict, etc. Change them to whatever you want.
You can never have enough tuners!

I thought those were for the actual show names in the EPG listings and not the timeline at the top. I'll try 'em out then. Thanks!

Timeline at the top?
It's just a bar, and only in some skins...it's not a "timeline" representation of anything.
If a conflict occurs, it shows a different colour on the conflicting shows, in the TV Guide.

As I plan to help out in Xguide again soon...

Do you think an extra color for "recording in this timeslot but has at least one tuner card free" would be helpfull?

I was thinking the color purple would do.
Red in the time bar - scheduled and no tuners free
Orange in the time bar - scheduled and has at least one show in confict
Purple in the time bar - scheduled as has at least one tuner care free to record
