Sometimes people ask me to transfer a recording to DVD. This is a lot of hassle (copy it to another PC, adjust bitrate, author it, burn it). I was thinking of an "Instant DVD" plugin for GBPVR.

I was thinking of something like:
- select the recording
- adjust bitrate to fit the recording on 1 DVD (if needed)
- insert a blanc DVD
- select "record" and presto, 15 minutes lates the DVD ejects Smile

Any such plugin exists? Or someone wants to develop one?

Close, close. But for that to work you need to install some additional software, and it can't do an "auto-fit". Some "all in one" plugin would be nicer Smile

to auto-fit you would need to reencode the file, which using s/w would take hours, not 15 minutes.

Not quite, when I do a re-encode with DVD Lab on my AMD 64 3500+ it takes approx 15 minutes. Big Grin

my machine it takes hours to reencode something....

you could handle this in the convert.bat file in my vids, just make a program to re-encode the file to the size of a dvd. (not exactly sure why you want to rencode a file to fit a dvd thou.... chances are it will fit, so you'll be increasing the size but that wont change anything, the quality would in fact be a little worse).

To do it all in one plugin without installing any extra software would be reinventing the wheel.

I shrink all my recordings by 10% as part of the process and get everything fitting on a single DVD

If you know ahead of time you will be trying to fit it onto a DVD, why not just record it at a compatable bitrate in the firstplace? I record at 4000, and can fit 3x1 hour shows after comercial removal. What are you trying to fit? And what bitrate are you using?
3x MVPs (not used anymore)
XBMC
Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack
AMD Athalon 64 5000+
340gig sata, plus 80SATA+3x160IDE Drives in XP machine for storage.

I was recording at the highest quality at first also then waiting 2 hrs to encode a 6 gb file to fit on 4.7gb DVD.
And saw it was around 4000 after it was encoded so now I just record at 4000, trim the fat & burn.
It looks just fine to me on the TV.
