CPU usage on Nova-T ?

Hi,

Could you please tell me when running Nova-T PCI or the Nova-T USB2, how much CPU is used in each case?

Does the USB2 version use much higher CPU than the PCI version ?

By the way, does anyone use MVP and Nova-T USB2 to pause/rewind/forward live TV ? Is it ok? I am a bit worried that the CPU usage of the Nova-T USB2 is too much to do the job.

GBPVR is great at this sort of thing and DVB cards have a very low overhead because they are all hardware based. I have 4 DVB cards fitted (including 1 Nova T USB2) and even when recording four channels at once the usage rarely goes above 20%.

Playback of a pre recorded file takes slightly more because the PC has to decode the file using software. Depending on the decoder, this is typically around 20% for me. So even with four cards recording and playing back a file at the same time i'm only around 50%.

The MVP also has it's own processing power so the inclusion of one shouldn't make much of an impact either. Unless you've got a very low end system I wouldn't worry too much.

Because I remember I read somewhere, someone told that it used about 50-60% of the CPU when he ran Nova-T USB2 and MVP. That's why I am a bit worried the system will be quite heavy to run other applications. At that time, I thought the Nova-T PCI will be better because it is plugged directly into the mainboard. If the CPU usage is not much different, I might go for the USB2 version because it is more flexible.

I added a Nova T USB2 because I ran out of PCI slots and i've been extremely happy with it - it's very stable and there is no difference in CPU usage over my PCI cards. If anything I would say it's even more responsive.

Unfortunately I don't have an MVP myself (yet!) so I can't give you a definate answer on this but I know people who are running several MVP's at once without any problems. Unless the MVP is an absolute system hog (which I cant believe) I'm sure it'll be fine with the Nova T USB2. I'm certainly not thinking twice about adding one to my system.

Maybe someone with an MVP can give some indication of CPU usage?

From what you have experienced with both PCI and USB2, I think it is fine to run the USB2 with MVP. I will post a query on the MVP section to see if anyone has done this and how much CPU is used then.
