Well Im tired of cycling though ratio settings just to get to the 2 i need! And they arent really even the right ones!

I run 800x600

How can i figure out the aspect ratio settings( like 0,0,0,1 etc...)
I need one for 4:3, 16:9 and that one thats like really widescreen 2.35:1

You could figure it out for me Smile

I can get you most of the way to an answer - maybe someone else could help where I am uncertain.

The four values are, in order,

X-start
Y-start
X-end
Y-end

The value is a percentage of the available screen real-estate, so your resolution is not a part of the math. Also, negative numbers are allowed meaning you can cut off any part of the image you would like - VMR effectively starts drawing outside the available rectangle if any of your values are negative. Some examples:

1) Display 100% of the image on 100% of the screen (4:3 standard television ratio):

0, 0, 1, 1

2) Cut off top 1% of the screen to remove visible subtitle artifact:

0, -0.01, 1, 1

Because the sheer algebra makes my head spin, I have by trial and error arrived at the following values which, visually, seem just about right for 16:9 and 2.35:1. If I'm off, they are close enough that I have never noticed people looking thin or squat (unless they were to begin with), and I'm sure someone here will correct me. Smile

16x9: 0, 0.125, 1, 0.875
2.35:1 0, 0.2, 1, 0.8

You can comment out the aspect ratios you don't need. The only active options I cycle through are full-screen, 16:9, and 2.35:1.

I rebuilt my machine today and am now running Vista/EVR on a 16:9 television.

When recording 4:3 television, I am now again getting the line of static at the top of the screen where closed captions are transmitted in the US. I can no longer crop it out using a negative Y-start value of, say, -0.01. I know I am adjusting the right value because it will allow positives: a value of +0.5 will start the picture halfway down from the top of my screen.

I can't seem to do this using overscan or zoom control values either.

How can I define an aspect ratio to crop 1% of the picture off the top in these new modern times? : )

I'm only guessing or foggy remembering, but if I understand, Vista gives users an ability to use EVR and with EVR, you can't have a negative aspect value. I believe using VMR saves the day...

anyone?

@zehd - thank you. You are not misremembering... I just found this thread based on what you described:

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...R+negative

Unfortunately I am in exactly the same pickle as the originator of that thread, with exactly the same VMR9/EVR/FSE quandry. I sure would like to see negative aspect ratios working in EVR, too.
