The bandwith for the comskip support site is becoming too expensive and donations are not on a level that helps solving this so I am looking for cheap web hosting.

There are a couple of low cost hosting plans but I assume quality has its price so I'd like to hear if anyone has experience with this, in particular if the server performance is acceptable?

Examples of low cost plans promising 500mb space and 10GByte monthly bandwith are from anr, accuweb, inmotion and dn2.

Any feedback is welcome

I use http://1and1.com and have been very happy with them for my limited needs. Example: 5gb space/250Gb transfer w/domain name is U$3/month.

They also have a UK based service at http://1and1.co.uk but the price is substantially higher.

I would guess that the 8 page max is with their building software. not what you can upload. My galleries that I setup for my kids soccer teams has a "page" for each picture.

I am in the process of switching to GoDaddy hosting. It hasn't been the simplest transfer but I really don't know much what I'm doing.

My plan is 5gb storage and 250GB transfer per month for about $3.00 per month US. So far, phone support has been very helpful and free. They do hit you with a sales pitch every time you call, but I can handle that. I just got everything working today and will probably FTP my site to their servers tomorrow morning.

I can't comment on uptime etc. since this is a new server for me.

There is always http://www.servage.net/, which has dirt cheap hosting and pretty good support from what I have heard. I also have a GIANT server I colo and have sent you a PM, maybe I can help you out.

1and1 is pretty good (from experience...I got in when they offered free accounts for a legit phone number)...

I also concur that the 8 page max is for their page builder...they have a lot of n00b type offerings for people who want to take a stab at "doing it all" through a web interface....basically cpanel or ensim with extras....

I've also used worldwebhosters which has what you are looking for but are pretty flaky when it comes to support. I've had one site running with them for about 2 years and it's reliable, a second site I put up with them with the exact same code base was REALLY slow and they refused to acknowledge it...

I've heard dreamhost is awsome if you are looking to rent a colo'd server but I'm not sure about shared hosting with them...

Your best bet by far is to "borrow" some space from someone like haxorboy on a nice colo'd server...
