I recently updated my cable box to a Scientific Atlanta 3250HD, with HD support via component video out and DVI out.
Since I do not yet have an HDTV, I run the S-Video output from the 3250 into a Hauppauge PVR-150 card on my PC and view the output on my 2nd monitor, a Samsung 940B LCD in analog mode, using an analog adapter off my digital port on the video card.
My video card is an ATI 9800 Pro, and I use “Theater” mode to view video on the 2nd monitor. GB-PVR is also configured to run on the 2nd monitor.
When I have nothing running on the 2nd monitor, the “Information” menu panel on the LCD says 1024 x 768 pixels, which is the same as my desktop. It also says 60 kHz x 75 Hz refresh rate and analog mode. No surprises here.
When I run GB-PVR, it reads the same – 1024 x 768, 60 kHz x 75 Hz. Everything looks great.
However, when I run the Hauppauge WinTV application, the monitor changes to 800 x 600, and the refresh rate changes to 38.75 kHz x 60 Hz. Why?
So, here are my two questions:
1. How can I get WinTV to run using my desktop monitor configuration - 1024 x 768 and 60 kHz x 75 Hz?
2. Does anyone know what video resolution is coming out of the S-Video port on the SA 3250HD box when I tune to an HD channel? For some HD programs, the channel logo at the bottom right says 1080i, but I know it can’t be that value. The question is – what is it – 480i, 480p, 720p, …?
Thanks in advance for any help on the above.
