I know that in the WIKI it lists the decoders that are supported on this page (http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Config/Playback). Elsewhere I have read that GBPVR doesn't get in the way when playing back a file and will use whatever is installed. I am thinking about trying out some other decoders to see what kind of results I get, but am wondering if I need to limit my choices to the ones listed in the WIKI or can I go hog wild!

Thanks.

P.S. as an aside, I think how each codec performs seems to be related to a number of factors, so you can't definitively say XXX decoder is the best. If I am wrong and there is a 'best' decoder... please stop me now before I waste alot of time! Thanks.

You can try pretty much any decoder you like. You'll need to add it to the <SupportedDecoders> list in config.xml after installing the decoder though.

Thanks for the info. What is the naming convention for the decoder? Just the filename or the name reported by somthing like MSoft's DECCHECK?

Its the filter name. You can can see it in GraphEdit, or several other utilities that show you the names of the directshow filters.

@sub

I tried just ago the Cyberlink PowerDVD 7.0 Decoder... this one won't be recognized by GB-PVR. Nothing to see in the Dropdown Fields, though this decoder is installed as primary one (checked by a microsoft decoder check tool).
How can this be? I remember PowerDVD 5.0 and 6.0 was working perfect.

EDIT:
This is no problem, i have no problems. Just something i could see.

The decoder name is differernt in PowerDVD7. Its now "CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD7)". I have added this for the next build.
