Yes. I'd say about a week ago, I wouldn't have understood what you just said.

I had no Idea that GBPVR is really running a sort of VNC to the MVP (or is that the other way around)...

I think it's great how it all works though...

I'd trying to find appropraite hardware to set up a media server in my home without having a pc in every location around the home for recording and playback of TV etc signals.

The only/best hardware that I can seem to find for the thin client part of the setup (in the lounge room) is the Hauppauge MediaMVP device.

I would really like to be able to do away with my DVD player and convert to one device to handle playback and recording but I can't find a thin client device that can support 5.1 sound that works the same way that the MediaMVP supports 2 channel stereo sound.

This seems to be the only thing missing for me to jump in boots and all!!

Has anyone any suggestions about how to get 5.1 to the lounge from the server without having a PC in the lounge room (wife won't go for PC's all round the house...)

Thanks

JT
You could ( assuming the dongle implimented this ) have Dolby Pro Logic Surround ( thats not Nicam, 5.1 or 7.2 ). All that is stereo 2 chan sound with an offset from both left & right channels for left right rear. Not as good but workable.

I know thats how they transmit via DTV in the UK how ever I'm not sure if its the same system they used for analouge.

My point is it could at a push be done using just 2 channels with out the need for an Optical or a TOS link.

I'm happy to confirm that my MediaMVP rev H2 does play the AC3 sound to my prologic amp. It's not perfect 5.1, but not plain vanilla stereo either.

I don't think I will be having my PBPVR server in the living room, until I start to play with HDTV..

So did you need to do any config for this ?

Actually no! My GB-PVR plays the AVI through FFMPeg like normal, and the MVP plays the stereo out via the red/white RCA cables to my Prologic Amp. I set the amp to Prologic, and there be sound....

I even ripped the THX logo from a Starwars DVD and played it. It rumbled pretty good.

I did not use the Spdif out on my MVP. (No spdif in on the amp...)

Don't know what to say. I can use a DVD, VHS and MVP, (All Stereo L/R) plugged into the Prologic Amp. The encoded surrounded sound in eth 2 channels are decoded and expanded. I don't know much more than this....

MMMmm I'll have to have a look... may be some thing to do with US / EU versions.

Scart can defo carry pro logic that I do know, just a shame they dont come with TOS by default.
