Does anyone know if it is possible (somehow) to control a GB-PVR / MVP implementation without using the Hauppauge remote control?

I'll be getting a Sky Navigator remote control with the built-in keyboard and it would be great if I could use that instead.

My current version of GB-PVR is quite old. I realise the Hauppauge MVP dongle.bin would only be able to respond to its own infra-red codes but I'm not sure if maybe a GB-PVR specific dongle.bin could be made to respond to other codes.
GB-PVR 1.0.16 (recording service and database) running on: VIA EPIA 5000 (533Mhz), 512MB, 40GB HD, PVR-150MCE, USB-UIRT controlling Sky Digital box.

GB-PVR 1.3.11 (front-end and client for above) running on: Toshiba NB100 netbook 1.6Ghz, 160GB HD, 1GB RAM.

Front-end viewed on 2xMVPs (using mvpmc dongle).

If you're getting the 'navigator' remote, I guess you have a sky box? if so how can you control two devices with the same remote?. That said I'm trying to get it to work with my keyboardless tablet PC (but that is in a different room).

You're right, I've been thinking about this myself.

As soon as I get the remote I'll be seeing if any of the "keyboard" buttons affect the normal operation of the Sky box (i.e. when I'm just using it to watch a channel and not looking at the on-screen guide etc.) If it doesn't interact then there should be no problem.

At the moment I have the Sky box and the PC that actually does the recording under the TV. That PC is not fast enough to run the GB-PVR client. I've done this as it gives me a very low power (<30W) personal video recorder. Whenever I'm in the house the machine upstairs will be turned on anyway. That is the PC that talks to the MVP. In effect the upstairs PC streams the video to the MVP from the video recorder PC. Not very efficient in terms of network traffic but works fine on a 100mbit wired LAN.

I will be moving the upstairs PC into a room downstairs soon and may then decide to move kit from the lounge to that room.

I use a Harmony 880 to replace the remotes from my MVP, TV, DVD, Coax switch, Air Conditioner, Stereo and cable box. Works well. You should be able to determine if it can emulate the Sky box remote by going to the Logitech website or emailing their customer support line.

Thanks Gort10 but I don't actually want to buy a new remote control I want to use the Sky Navigator remote as it has a built in Qwerty keyboard which I will be able to make use of in my own applications and gbpvr plugins that I write.
