in my understanding, it is a device which read music, video and picture thru network from a PC or other storage and output to a TV set.

Is it correct ?

Yes. It's a Set-Top box that hooks to your TV and network. It requires a Server to drive its user interface and to send it the media. GBPVR is one such software.

For video, you should consider that MPEG2 is the only video supported by the MVP hardware. AVI is supported in SOFTWARE ONLY, and you would need a strong PC to watch those.
