Want to start using a NMT or Hauppauge Media device. Suggestions?

We finally just bought a house, and have moved in. I'd really like to just have a big screen tv in the living room with one simple device hooked to our network instead of a whole pc. I was thinking about just using a pc before but our living room looks so nice. I want to keep all the computer stuff out of it. I see that we are getting very close to a new version of GB-pvr, but haven't had enough time to figure out what that will really mean. I want to just have a device with remote that has two things an hdmi cable out to the tv and an ethernet cable in from my network. What does everybody think is going to be the best way to go with one of these devices thinking of the future of course?

I would vote for an eGreat or A-110 device (I personally run an A-110 since august last year, had a Hauppauge MVP prior to that) and it is a really reliable and good solution. Martin has unfortunatly not been able to port the mvpmcx2 to the 200-series (even though he has tried quite hard as I understand it). It is almost working but quite all the way yet. But I also have a colleague that uses a C-200 with GB-PVR recording everything and then he uses the C-200 to read the files over the network using the built-in interface.
Personally I would like to have GB-PVR on a C-200 but if that is not possible I will stay with my A-110.

I have an old A-100 and it works a treat, is small and does everything I want it to thanks to sub and Martin

So what you are saying is that live tv doesn't work? The C-200 will do everything as long as it is recorded media? I honestly never watch live tv anymore so this would work for me. Is it able to use comskip'd data? I guess what I'm saying is what are the limitations as of right now? Although I am using a pvr-500, which is old school but works very well.

The native player is not able to use com skip, livetv or display the GBPVR interface to schedule recordings. There are many players that can play GBPVR's recordings, many much cheaper than the 200 series.

Your HDHR recordings won't even tax the first gen 100 series PCH's assuming the are of good quality.

Now that is the piece of info to put me at ease buying one of these units. If they can play all my video, and do all my scheduling, etc., through one of these it is a no brainer. I had thought that only the newest units with the "HD" in the name would be able to do that. Thanks for making this an easy decision. I just wish they had these at Fry's. I am now living very close to a Fry's. I went there last night and the only unit they have is the Asus O!play units. They might of had the WD units too, but I didn't see it. I would have rather not bought online if possible. Are the Asus units capable? If not I'll put in an order today at lunch through Amazon.

For extenders, the chipset is key and Asus uses Realtek, the WD Live uses Sigma, and they are both "capable", but all media extenders have varying degrees of limitations depending on your needs. Neither of these will support a GBPVR interface.

Enough said. Thanks. I ordered an A-100 at lunchtime today. I hope it is what I'm hoping for in not being bulky. I'm hoping to put it right behind the TV, and put an IR extender so that is all that is showing. Looks like in the near future the TV itself will be able to act as frontend, but not there just yet. Looking forward to an uncluttered living room. We'll see how long before my wife starts trying to fill it with how do I say this, junk.
