I just keep seeming to have Standby issues. Whenever I use the menu item to Standby under the System category it restarts my computer. I have my front power button set to standby and it functions correctly so the computer is capabile of going into Standby. Any ideas why this would restart the computer?

From this website: http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm I copied the next frase:

Quote:
Most Win XP shutdown problems reported thus far have been that it reboots when shutdown is attempted. This may be a global symptom emerging from several distinct causes, because, by default, XP executes an automatic restart in the event of a system failure. Therefore, more or less anything compromising the operating system during the shutdown process could force this reboot.
[INDENT]Disabling the “restart on system failure” feature may permit the exact cause to be isolated: Right-click on My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab. Under “Startup & Recovery,” click Settings. Under “System Failure,” uncheck the box in front of “Automatically restart.”

Well I disabled auto-reboots and now I can successfully enter Standby from the menu option but when I hit the front power button to bring it out of standby it locks and I have to do a hard reboot. I've also noticed I can successfully enter Hibernation mode but have issues properly resuming. Any ideas?

I was having problems using standby or shutdown form the system menu, which was locking my computer. I was suspicious that it could be the XCard drivers, which seem to cause all sorts of trouble, but managed to get round it by writing my own shutdown plugin using nircmd (freeware available here);

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html

This simply involved adding a button in the plugin configuration that launched a one line batch file for each function (shutdown, hibernate etc.) using the nircmd utility, and it seems to work every time (so far).
