I have read the section in the guide on this issue, but I don't think that applies to my problem because I'm getting a black screen when I resume from standby by pressing the power button on the PC. It's a completely black screen, but I can also see a bright white cursor. So I must reboot every time I want to access recordings via GBPVR. I have the screen-saver disabled in XP (but the GBPVR screen-saver is enabled).

This PC is dedicated exclusively to GBPVR - no keyboard or mouse - it sits in the entertainment center connected via S-Video cable to an old standard TV. I can access the software via TightVNC on my main PC.

Otherwise everything works perfectly. It wakes to record and goes back into standby when done recording. The only problem remaining is that black screen when coming out of standby by pressing the power button. It's my understanding that pressing the power button when in standby shouldn't produce a black screen, is that correct?

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i'm guessing here.....

have u tried killing gbpvr and going into and out of standby to see if it works?
maybe some program that doesnt like being suspended?

have u tried hibernate as opposed to suspend?

AFAIK there is no difference when using the power button.

I use hibernate all the time with no issues and it wakes from button, to record or even WOL.

I think you should give this utility a go (put it in your startup folder)

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...tart_pvrx2

Amoungst the several things that it does, it sends a screen wake command to the screen when waking up from standby although I thought that this precise problem only happened when the pc woke itself from standby rather than via the power button. Eitherways it's worth trying it.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. As I was testing various things suggested in this thread, I realized that the black screen was occurring only after a period of time. In other words, I could go into standby, and if I came right back out again, after a minute or so, I did NOT get the black screen. The black screen was only occurring after longer periods (I didn't test how long). It appeared to be a timing-out issue of some kind. So I did some searching and found a similar problem discussed in an Nvidia forum. Here's the gist of that thread (from 2008):

----

"What I have discovered is that there is a problem with NVIDIA driver/adapter gets timed-out/missing interrupt with the monitor... When that happens, it gets into a default state of reverting to its original display and that is the reason why it ends up as a black screen..."

----

Well, I realized that I was using an older driver from about that time, so I updated the driver and tried standby again. I let it sit overnight, came out of standby, and the black screen issue was fixed. I'll post this in case someone down the road encounters this - it could just require a video driver update.

Thanks for the help. I was completely stuck, and it was all the suggestions here that got me on the right track.

This is intriguing, because I have been searching for a utility that will wake my screen when a recording or scheduled task resumes the system. However, I don't want to run the PVRx2 interface, which startPVRx2 does automatically. Does anyone have, or can you point out the commands for, a tiny app that will only perform the screen wake?

I will post this in the startPVRx2 forum as well.
