All you skin specialist, I might have a question that is obvious to many but I still am confused....

I thought that Advisor skin was developed to set some kind of skinning standard, but when the community skin came I realized that this skin is setting another standard. What is the end objective with these 2 ways to do skins? Are you competing or is it a matter of taste? Or is there a relation between the 2 that I dont see.

I guess that was more than one question but the confusion on my side is still there.

Anyone to clarify? MixMan, Olddog, Fatman_do, McBainUK???

I don't see the Community Skin project as an attempt to set a 'standard'. I see it as a skinning system designed so that all GBPVR users can contribue to if they wish, together with a complementary plugin which allows for 'on the fly' skin changes and the abiity to "make your own skin".

But, at the end of the day it's all about user choice and taste (just look at the number of Music Player type plugins). Each to his own Smile

The Community skin is an evolution of several methods into one. The primary foundation of the Community skin is a Common Image naming convention that hopefully would be adopted by other image based skins in the future. Having common names for images allows greater flexibility with changing the look of the skin. That is the primary "standard" followed by the CommunitySkin. In reality, there is no standard. Each skinner is free to do what they wish to accomplish their design.

The Community Skin is also a "work-in-progress" that is testing new ideas that are hidden from the user. These include a common textstyle standard and "named color" standard. These last two are still to be finalized on.

The Advisor skin will still always be ahead of the curve with theme support and higher resolution skins than the Community Skin.

I'm not associated with either of these projects. I'm the author of The Collection, Appearance Manager, and Plain Jane.

The Community skin and the CommonImage based plugin skins is a step towards a standard for plugin skinning.
My view and FatMan_dos/McBainUKs view on how much of text styles should be in the baseskin differs, so I left "project". But the Advisor skin will support CommonImages and BlueMCE2 skinned plugins.
I am also waiting what Sub has to say about our suggestions for CommonImage based skins. Hopefully there will be one standard for skinning plugins....some day.
Best Regards
MixMan
