Is GB PVR the missing MPEG2 Decoder you need for a PVR-150 MCE ?

The main complaint from people buying a Hauppauge PVR 150 (or other versions) is that ther is no included MPEG2 Decoder.

Is that what this GB-PVR program is ?

If I want to watch and record Cable TV with a PVR-150, do I still need Beyond TV ? or is this GB-PVR software exactlly what I need and not even bother with Beyond TV ?

Sorry for a question that is probably obvious to most people, but I think I'm getting confused in my initial stages of purchasing a new TVCard to replace my aging Leadtek WinFast TV 2000XP Deluxe. Which has stopped recording MPEG2 format and only captures MPEG1 and Windows ACI formats now.

You will still need an MPEG2 Decoder in order to decode the stream, but these are available for you with most DVD software and I beleive the WinTV application for the PVR150 MCE comes with one.

GBPVR will allow you to record and watch Cable Tv with the 150 granted you have the decoder installed on your system

--EDIT
Sorry, I shouldn't try to post before I have my 3 morning coffees Wink

I guess the MCE edition does not come with a Decoder.
But again, you can get a decoder with any dvd playing software installed on your system
The decoder should work independently of your hardware. The card encodes the stream and the decoder just decodes it off of your harddrive

I don't believe Windows MCE comes with a decoder, I know it didn't used to. The PVR150MCE doesn't come with one either, only the MCE drivers. However, you can get the decoder and the TV app from Hauppauge's web site. The stuff for the 'normal' PVR150 works fine with the 150MCE.

The decoder is under 'WinTV video decoder update'.

Thanks,
I'll do a search for k-lite mega codec pack.
This could be what I'm missing with my current Leadtec setup as well.
