When I run the TuningAssistant, I get the "Failed to find Crossbar filter. Wrong device type" message.
I tried all the listed types.

Here is the filter log:

That card doesnt appear to have the required hardware MPEG2 encoder. Its most likely a software encoder card. Sorry.

Blurry photo I know...
Nonetheless, the chip in the bottom right has the following written on it:

CONEXANT
MPEG II A/V ENCODER
CX 23416-22
0525Y1GW
0525 Taiwan

Does this change anything? It looks like an ecoder chip to me (?)
I also have the restore disks for the original Sony VAIO PC the card came from.

It must be a very old design since it doesnt have a filter in the 'AM_KSCATEGORY_ENCODER' section of the data in filtercheck.log.

You could try duplicating the [Hauppauge PVR250] section of the direct.ini file, and replacing the filter and pin names with those from your filtercheck.log. If you're lucky it might work.

Forgive my being "green" at this stuff...

I found the section of the direct.ini,

[Hauppauge PVR250]
INIT_MODE=IVAC
INIT_MSP=1
SUPPORTS_FM_RADIO=0
MODEL=320xx,480xx
FILTER_CROSSBAR=Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Crossbar
FILTER_CAPTURE=Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture
FILTER_TV_TUNER=Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II TvTuner
FILTER_TV_AUDIO=Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II TvAudio
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_TUNER_IN=Video Tuner In
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_VIDEO_OUT=Analog Video
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_AUDIO_OUT=Analog Audio
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_IN=TVAudio In
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_OUT=TVAudio Out
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_TUNER_IN=Audio Tuner In
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_DECODER_OUT=Video Decoder Out
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_VIDEO_IN=Analog Video In
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_DECODER_OUT=Audio Decoder Out
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_AUDIO_IN=Analog Audio In
PIN_CAPTURE_CAPTURE_OUT=Capture
PIN_CAPTURE_PREVIEW_AUDIO_OUT=Preview Audio
PIN_WRITER_INPUT_IN=Input

but having reviewed the filter log, I'm not sure what the filter and pin names are.

You didnt attach the whole filtercheck.log, so I cant see all the names at the moment.

I'm also pretty busy, so cant try to do it for you at the moment. I'll give you an example though, since most of them are pretty easy to guess at. You try to do it, then post your filtercheck.log and new direct.ini section and I'll try to confirm.

As an example, take the TV Audio filter. Its called "SMRT TV Audio", and has pins called "TVAudio In" and "TVAudio Out".
Quote:21:42:21.453 INFO Checking AM_KSCATEGORY_TVAUDIO filters
21:42:21.453 INFO found: SMRT TV Audio
21:42:21.453 INFO - (input) TVAudio In
21:42:21.453 INFO - (output) TVAudio Out

so...

FILTER_TV_AUDIO=SMRT TV Audio
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_IN=TVAudio In
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_OUT=TVAudio Out
etc...

That's a Sony GigaPocket card and it's been pretty much unusable on any PC other than the original. The software isn't usually on the recovery disks. They just allow you to access the hidden partition on the hard drive where the software application is located.

There might be drivers on the recovery disk but I don't think they will install on a non-Vaio PC. If the drivers will install, then there is some chance that GB-PVR or WinTvCap might be able to run it.

Sony built the card themselves so third party applications have not been known to work, unless someone has managed it recently.

I successfully installed the original drivers from the "Drivers" folder on disc1 of the restore set (go figure - I was also surprised)... The "found new hardware" wizard picked it up right away as

"SONY MPEG RealTime encoder board"

Here is what I got so far...
I don't actually see any video, but it seems to be doing something.
Should I go through all "158 channels to check"?

Unfortunately its hard for me to tell from there. You might need to try setting up a capture source in the config app, then try using live tv in PVRX2, then zip and attach the pvrx2.exe.log and pvrx2.exe-native.log files.
