Hi, as you can all see, I'm new here.

I recently found an old TV tuner that came with my dad's laptop, he never used it so I hooked it up to my computer and it seemed to work.

The only software I could get to make it work was something called Snappysoft. It's moderately decent, allowing me to watch TV atleast, but no recording or anything fancy at all without buying it. Anyways, I've stumbled upon this nice piece of software, and I was hoping someone could inform me on how I could edit the direct.ini to make the tuner work?

Any help would be appreciated, and the only thing I know about it is that it's made by Emuzed, but beyond that I'm clueless.

Thanks in advance Big Grin

I'm guessing this doesnt have the required hardware MPEG2 encoder, so unlikely to work with GB-PVR.

Sigh, that's what I was afraid of... are you absolutely sure? I could disassemble it and take pictures. I disassembled it last week to try to figure out what it was, so it's not very difficult.

Would a MPEG2 encoder be needed to record anything off of a tuner, with any piece of software? The SnappySoft claims to be able to record, and it does seem to work. So, it might actually have MPEG2 encoder, it's just not something entered into the direct.ini

It's a USB tuner, and it's supposed to be used in conjuction with Windows XP MCE, if that's any help to figuring it out.

No I'm not sure, but this is usually the case for old cards. Hardware encoder cards started arriving about 3 or 4 years ago.

A photo wouldnt help me. A name and model number would.

Well, the laptop is around 2 yrs old (the tuner came with laptop) and on the side of the tuner is this:

TOSHIBA
----------
External TV Tuner
Model No. PA3334U-1TVN

Not sure if that's any help?

But, as you said, Hardware encoder cards are 3-4 years old, the laptop is only 2 years old or so.
