pci-e x16 video card suggestions

Hi all,
I am in the market for a new video card and am wondering what would be best for a dual monitor setup where my first is a 20" lcd running off of the dvi and the secondary monitor is a 50 Plasma display using VGA (I run GBPVR on the plasma as a secondary monitor).

Let me start by saying that I have used nvidia cards in the past with mixed results. I would like to (if possible) find a card that has on board acceleration for mpeg/h.264 but will sacrifice that for overall performance.

Any suggestions?

I currently use an ATI 1800 GTO. The GTO is much cheaper than the real 1800 but still gives very good performace (SD, HDTV as well as gaming).
