Hi,

Can anyone advise what entry should be entered into EPGUpdate.bat please as the EPG on my GB-PVR installation doesn't seem to be updating automatically for some reason or another.

CD C:\Program Files\XMLTV GUI\
Xmltvconsole.exe

Thank you.

Seasons Greetings.

Kind Regards.

Apologies didn't realise that there's a seperate thread on this (or a similar problem).

I'm not familiar with your xmltv grabber, so I dont know if it requires and command line parameters etc, but it'll be something like that. You might need quotes around the directory name though.

The correct file name is UpdateEPG.bat

Hi Sub,

Thank you for your reply. Seasons Greetings to you by the way Smile .
Think that I should really should be sleeping right now. Getting things wrong such as the .bat filename Sad .

UpdateEPG.bat used to work I'm almost certain of that. Must be doing something wrong somewhere. Perhaps the commands aren't correct and need checking as you've said. Does anyone that uses this EPG grabber have any suggestions please?.

Keep up the good work Sub.

Kind Regards.

Does it work if you run the batch file manually?. That splits the problem into two - batch file or it getting called. I don't use that one, but use the following, but with windows scheduler.

"E:\Program Files\XMLTV GUI\XmltvGUI.exe" /grab /d7

I'm fairly sure the quotes are needed with spaces in the path/filename.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for your reply. No unfortunately not (doesn't work if the batch file is run manually) Sad. Shall try the entry that you've suggested.

Not sure how to go about configuring windows scheduler as never used this. Could you give a quick run-down please?.

Edit: The following entry seems to work alright in the batch file:

CD C:\Program Files\XMLTV GUI\
XmltvGUI.exe /Grab

Not sure why I'd thought Xmltvconsole.exe was a correct entry Sad.

What is the switch (/d7) for (this is a switch right)?.

Apologies, the entry that was in the batch file does work where clicked on manually....
(Seems to run in a command-prompt window).

CD C:\Program Files\XMLTV GUI\
Xmltvconsole.exe

Any idea's why this wasn't working through GB-PVR running the batch file automatically?.

Thank you Smile.
Kind Regards.

Seasons Greetings.

We've all been there:o

the /d7 is telling it to grab 7 days. This was to reduce a problem in the UK where transmit times sometimes changed by a few minutes and messed up the TV guide display on pending recordings.

Hi Martin, Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. Am I right in saying that the grabber otherwise grabs 14-days worth of EPG?. If this is a problem think that adding the /d7 is probably a good idea.

Kind Regards.

AFAIK, by default it grabs all that the Radio Times throws at it.
The problem arises when programs shift by a small amount of time - couple of minutes or so. If you have one setup for recording, then the times are set from the first time it sees that program in the EPG and don't change. If the times change then EPG updates will show the original and the new times - but as they overlap, they get displayed oddly. I can't remember what times are used to record it.
The above may be completely wrong of course, but gives an idea!

Having a smaller EPG has noticable speed improvements when loading the TV guide as well. A full one with my channels is 19213 programs and the 7 day one is 11185 programs.

cheers

Hi Martin,

Thank you. That makes a lot more sense now. I'd not understood what the benefits were for grabbing less EPG in your earlier post. Shall add the '/d7' switch asap.

Kind Regards.
