I'm running WinXP, 950Q tuner, OTA reception, using MC2XML for my EPG, updating at 1AM.

I have WinXP setup to:
System standby in 3 mins, hibernates in 5 mins.

When I'm done using my PC at night it will hibernate w/o any problem.

When I wake up the next morning for work (5:30am), my PC is on. System logs show that it woke up at 1AM.

I don't have any shows set up to record. I don't see that the HD activity light is lit, don't see that anything was running.

Why doesn't my computer wake up, update the EPG, then hibernate again?

TIA,
Dave

Does your system wake up and hibernate correctly when recording?

If you only get that problem in the nightly epg update: are you sure the EPG update is done? I've had situations where one of the step in my epg update batch failed to complete, but never terminated. By not terminating my UpdateEPG.bat never completed/exited, and therefore the Recording Service kept telling Windows not to hibernate because the update wasn't done.

When that problem occurs again, check your Task Manager. See if any running process stands out.

Yesterday I did see that I had some scheduled events (google updater, adaware updater), deleted them.

This morning and during the day it has worked fine, PC turning on for EPG update and then turning off, turning on to record a show, then off.

Now that it seems to be working properly, I need to figure out how to keep the PC from turning off when I'm using the MVP in the other room :p

mvallevend made this possible by using the mvpmc dongle for the MVP, look in the MVP & NMT forum there is a mvpmc sub forum off it with the download in it.

I'm fairly sure sub tells Windows to stay away when using remote devices when watching a recording or navigating the menus. I think there is one current bug that allows the system to sleep if you pause when playing back, but it is on the fix list.

Give this a try MCE Standby Tool and take a look at the "Idle" tab:

Just in case I'm not the last person on the planet to have heard of this ... msconfig.exe (built in to XP and, maybe, other Win versions) allows you switch services and startup programs on and off. I fixed my hibernate problems by switching off everything that I didn't want.
