Ok I decided to move my main pc in to my media box.
On doing so the CPU decided to die. When looking to see what my motherboard could handle in its place I find that there is no available CPU that it can handle!
Was an AMD XP 1900
I decided to upg the motherboard to allow for a newer cpu which now I find means that it is nearly impossible to get a motherboard that supports AGP!
So the upshot of this I have decided to get the following:
CPU
Motherboard
Graphics card
Ram

I have about £300 to play with and it was wondering what to go for.
AMD OR INTEL
Dual or single core
DDR or DDR2

As I have not had to buy a new system for a few years things seem to have changed a lot and I appear to be a bit out of touch.

You can get some pretty good deals on socket 939 mobo's and AMD Processors. 939 supports Dual Channel DDR. You can even get socket 939 boards that have an AGP slot on them so you could save some $$$ and keep your AGP card.

I know you are in the UK, but here is a quick example of a socket 939 board that has AGP and supports Dual Channel DDR:

Look for ASRock (An ASUS subsidiary) motherboards. They have a ton of great S775 motherboards that support Core2Duo procs and DDR2 with AGP and PCIe. The Dual VSTA actually has DDR2 and DDR slots. Great for transition upgrades.
