Done. Logs reflect this.

I've removed it .. :-).

OK, I attach the GBPVR logs and the VLC logs (2# same station NDR2, with wait of 5000ms and of 15000ms, plus 1# of RTHK (local station here also wait time 15000ms). VLC starts up (process explorer) then disappears within about 5 secs in both cases. Both work under Preview Play. I had a wee look in the logs and sort of deciphered that something was happening OK, to a point, but losing packets ?? But BOTH streams?

HTH.

You're going to laugh (I hope Smile ). This time your problem was that you had the wait time set too high. You should only need a wait time delay if you are using the MVP. For regular GB-PVR use, setting it to zero should be fine or maybe 1000 if you have some "problem" stations that take a while to start streaming. There's a "built in" wait time that happens before that (basically waiting for the MP3 file to get created). The wait time you set in the config window just adds an additional delay so the transcoder has a chance to get ahead of the GB-PVR player (needed mainly for the MVP).

You may have noticed in the logs:

Code:
UbuRecorder: No active video player found after 25 seconds - Stopping recorder.
(which should really say "no active player" - that's because the UbuRecorder code is shared with UbuStream). When you are in non-MVP mode the recorder will time out after 25 seconds if GB-PVR hasn't started playing it (indicating that the stream is not responding or is corrupted or whatever). A wait time of 15000ms was apparently enough to trigger this condition. I tried it. Same thing happened to me with both stations. Dropped the wait time to 1000ms and then to 0ms and both stations played fine in both cases.

Confusingly, the 25 second timeout does not kick in when using the MVP since I have no way of knowing if the MVP is playing it or not. (For more on this, maybe more than you want to know, check out the explanation I gave in this thread today.)

So trying to get all this working for both regular GB-PVR and for MVP users is a bit like herding cats. I was tempted to enhance my MVP with a sledgehammer this weekend when it rebooted for the zillionth time while I was testing.

Your station choices are certainly eclectic. I know a tiny bit of German so NDR-2 isn't so bad, but RTHK stretches my mastery of Mandarin (or Cantonese?) to its limit. Big Grin

Once again, let me know if this doesn't sort out your problem.

WTF? What is this "hot and miss" hour? ... LOL Big Grin

Hmm. I'll try that. Actually I will mainly use the MVP but what if I wanted to timeshift on the PC? Maybe you could stick in a seperate setting for each :-)

German wife, I'm a Kiwi. Actually 1/2 Kiwi / 1/2 Danish, living in HK for 15 years (actually I didn't even listen to which program it was TBH). My mastery of Cantonese is as good as yours but wife and I speak German at home.

p.s. yeah I saw that explanation to pz1...blew my socks off.

I'll put it on the to-do-list - right under "Translate menu button text into Cantonese".

Sheesh! You Kiwis trying to take over the world or something? I thought your Viking ancestors already did that. Smile Being a Brit living in California, with a French-American wife and two German dogs (dachshunds) thought I was pretty "multi-cultural" but you take the cake. BTW - (I've asked this elsewhere in the forums, but no reply) when Radio NZ International has "dead air", it broadcasts some kind of bird call (instead of annoying beeps like the BBC and DeutscheWelle do). Is that a Kiwi? (the bird, not the pvr-fanatics or the rugby team).

Already have.... well it is a little known fact that Britain was actually colonised by NZ and here's proof... you know the British Flag... well it flapped and fluttered and got so tattered on the ship that by the time the kiwis got to the UK all that was left was the little bit up in the Top LHS Corner. :-) Actually my wife's Father is actually Czech, so our kids are real mongrels....

No idea...! I kinda like the beeps ... sicko!

Flattery will get you everywhere! Since you gave the UbuRadio MVP interface such good press in the Community Anouncements thread, I've changed the config window to have two wait settings: "Timeshift standard wait time" and "Timeshift MVP wait time". Just for you! :p

It'll be in v1.1 which I'll release this week (unless you want a "preview" copy, in which case I'll shoot you one).

Maybe my VLC is ot configured properly?
also on the HTPC GBPVR main screen If I choose the palyer to be realplayer no problems hearig the BBC. If I select it to be VLC it does the starts buffering and hangs with the same error message. that is why i think it to be a VLC issue and the transcode to mp3.
If a station plays OK with Timeshift Play on your HTPC but "hangs" on the buffering step with your MVP, that usually means that the "Timeshift MVP wait time" value in the config panel is not large enough. (For UbuRadio this is a "one size fits all" value so you have to set it big enough to handle your slowest responding station. In the UbuStream v2.1 beta version, this can be set individually for each station).

On the MVP, if the station can't be played (due to a timing problem or a transcoding problem or whatever), cancelling produces this rather inelegant message. That's because my code can't detect that the MVP is having a playback problem. I've asked sub (pleaded Smile ) to provide a way for a plugin to monitor MVP playback status so, hopefully, this may get fixed in a future release.

Your second problem may simply be that VLC can't transcode the RealPlayer stream. It can read some RealAudio streams but "officially", Real streams aren't supported. A good rule of thumb for any stream is, if the stream will play with native VLC (outside of UbuRadio and GB-PVR) it should work with Timeshift Play. Try copying the station's URL into the "Customize" field on the "Open Network Stream" dialog in VLC. If it plays OK with VLC but still won't play with Timeshift Play, you probably need to increase the wait time value (either "standard" or "MVP", depending on whether you are using the HTPC or the MVP for playback).

If all else fails, on either of these problems, you can attach your logs here (gbpvr.exe.log, UbuRecordingService.exe.log and UbuNetStreamPlayer.VLC.log) and I'll take look. For the MVP playback issue, make sure you close GBPVR on your HTPC so the gbpvr.exe.log will capture your MVP session messages.

BTW - If you can't get the BBC WS RealAudio stream to work with Timeshift Play, try these WMP ones instead. They work for me.

BBC WS News 16Kbps - http://playlist.yahoo.com/makeplaylist.dll?id=57025
BBC WS News 20Kbps - mms://a1900.l1305038968.c13050.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/1900/13050/v0001/reflector:38968
BBC WS N. America 16Kbps - http://playlist.yahoo.com/makeplaylist.dll?id=57024

You can either edit your UbuRadioFavourites.xml file and add them manually (make a backup first Wink ) or set them up as UbuStream stations and then add them to your UbuRadio favorites list.

I've been using the radio plugin for sometime now and love it but just have a few suggestions..

*Any chance of a WS community skin? I'm not sure how the whole skin thing works - do plugin authors tend to create skins for their own programs or do the skin creators make them up? The default skin doesn't seem to like community WS very well. I tried to modify the existing community skin but my skills aren't very good! :-)

*I use timeshift mode by default and notice at times that when the visualizations/screen saver starts that audio gets quite choppy at times. This only happens in timeshift mode but I prefer to use timeshift mode to make things simpler to use.

Usually, the plugin author just provides the basic Blue skin and the skin authors then provide support for the plugin for their specific skin. I don't use the WS version of the Community Skin so I'm not sure what the issues are with it. Perhaps you could post the problems that you are experiencing on the Community Skin support thread.

The timeshift play option uses the GB-PVR audio player so I don't have a lot of control over it. The visualizations probably use more CPU/memory resources. Do you experience the same problem when using the NetRadio plugin?
